Meant to be in London, the meeting eventually happened in some offices in Paris, right next to La Gare du Nord train station. The meeting reportedly took five hours, during which Didier Deschamps had announced Martial would be, for the first time, called up to the France first-team. The foundations of a four year contract + option for one more were drawn, and Martial’s representatives got the reassurances they were looking for. United’s representative, their chief scout, according to L’Equipe, were adamant the player would play an important part at the club straight away. If that wasn’t enough, Louis Van Gaal even rang Martial on the Saturday morning (29th of August) to discuss things further. While he had considered using Morgan Schneiderlin as his translator for the phone call, L’Equipe say one of Martial’s relatives stepped up to help. The call was made to establish a few details: where he would play on the pitch, if he was comfortable playing behind the striker or down the left, what he was used to training wise etc… Louis Van Gaal even asked, jokingly, if the player went out a lot in the evening, a worry put to bed straight away by Martial’s father. The 15-minute conversation reportedly ended with Van Gaal saying: “See you Monday.” And he did. Martial was so convinced he contacted AS Monaco's president and pleaded for permission to accept the transfer. Lol. Daddy power.

Arsene Wenger has hailed Manchester United’s latest signing Anthony Martial as “an exceptional talent” following his deadline day switch to Old Trafford, as reported by the Independent.
Martial was signed from Ligue 1 side Monaco in a deal worth £58 million (fee via the newspaper) last week, but Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal were also keeping tabs on the 19-year-old, who made his debut for the French national team last Friday night. The front-man can play centrally and out-wide, becoming United’s third recognised striker after Wayne Rooney and James Wilson, following the sales of Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez in the summer. However Wenger see’s Martial as more of a winger, claiming that was the reason why Arsenal didn’t follow-up their interest.
Anthony Martial had a shot accuracy of 56% last season in Ligue 1. The Gunners boss said of the 19-year-old: “We [have] known him since he was a kid. But he’s more of a winger-type. “He’s an exceptional talent I agree with you but I believe that he plays in positions where we have players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexis Sanchez and Joel Campbell who can play in the position.” Last season Martial scored nine goals and created 12 chances in 35 Ligue 1 appearances for Monaco, completing 43% of his take-ons and with an average pass accuracy of 72%

Price paid seems higher than hell, but as LvG said, pay it now, or pay 10million more a year from now.

11/09/2015 17:30, Report by James Tuck VAN GAAL: MARTIAL WILL BE EASED INTO ACTION Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed new signing Anthony Martial will be introduced into the first team "at the right time".
Much of the talk in the media has focused on the fee the Reds paid Monaco to sign the young French striker, with suggestions it puts pressure on him to succeed instantly at Old Trafford. But van Gaal rejects such a notion, insisting the forward will be built up gradually, and says United were forced to spend big on the teenager due to the nature of the transfer market. "He is a young player and has already played for Monaco’s first team and in the Champions League," van Gaal told MUTV. "He is the best of his age and that’s why he bought him. "But we have to wait and see. He is 19 years old and he has to adapt. You have seen how [Angel] Di Maria struggled here and he was 27, and [Radamel] Falcao was 29. "We have to give him time but it’s difficult because fans are reading in the media about the money we paid for him, and they think he shall score at once, but it is not like that. "We are living in a crazy world and now we have to pay that kind of money because, otherwise, he would have gone to another club. We bought him because we need a striker in the future. "Maybe he can show signals of his quality this season. We can build him up and, at the right time, he can enter the game." www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Sep/louis-van-gaal-says-anthony-martial-will-be-introduced-to-manchester-united-first-team-gradually.aspx

I also not a fan of any player being referred to as the "next whoever" generally it seems a jinx. I do have to admit those goals are eerily similar.

Too early to label the kid anything but we've been missing someone running at the defence for a very long time.

Haven't read yet, but the one thought that keeps popping up is how great it would have been to be in the Stretford End and seen the look on that fooking Skyrtl's face when the kid came straight at him. Just know the kid had a smile on his face, and Skelator knew without doubt from the first 2 steps he was going to get fooking owned in front of a billion people watching all over the world.
The roar that went up will plague that fooking shitbirds dreams forever !!

Feel as though I need to urge caution before the martial fever goes overboard.
Yes it was great to see his direct attacking intent, yes he made skrtl look silly and yes he finished it extremely well, BUT... Machida, januzaj etc..
Very happy for him and very promising but to quote the scousers "calm down"
