Then, on the website : www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/anthony-martial-could-new-thierry-6355950 Absolute Cuntfaces. Martial has been the worst kept secret in France for a number of years now. He has been lauded as the “next Thierry Henry” since he was a 16-year-old protégé at Olympique Lyonnais and the comparisons have never seemed more apt than in recent weeks United are getting a player who is brilliant with the ball at his feet and who has the upper-body strength and speed to power past opponents. At the end of last season we saw more of his ability to play through the middle and lead the line - his movement is smart and he has a handy knack of finding space in the penalty area. Conclusion: A star in waiting There is no doubt that Martial is a talented player, and along with Alexandre Lacazette, probably one of the best young strikers in France. However, he is just about to turn 20 and has only three seasons of first team football under his belt, with only one of those seeing him become a regular first-team player at Monaco. While his pace and versatility will bring a lot to Manchester United, asking a teenager to come in to a huge club like this and instantly have an impact is a big ask, not to mention the huge price tag hanging over his head which could potentially be used against him at every opportunity. While comparisons to Thierry Henry may be slightly premature, the Frenchman will have all the resources he needs to succeed in Manchester and should he iron out a few inconsistencies in his game, all of the ability is there to become a top striker in years to come.

Louis Saha claims Anthony Martial’s arrival at Manchester United will make it “impossible” for opposition teams to shut down the Red Devils. The French youngster became the world’s most expensive teenager last week when he moved to the Premier League in a £36million deal from Monaco. And while Saha, who spent four years at Old Trafford, admits that price tag may be a “bit too much”, he has no doubts the 19-year-old has the ability to succeed at the Theatre of Dreams. “I’m a big fan of his,” he told talkSPORT. “I think he’s got the quality [Louis] Van Gaal requires and I’m not surprised they went for him. It’s a good choice. “He will bring speed and unpredictability [to the team] and they are the things missing at the moment – someone who is capable of doing things you’re not expecting, beating three or four players on his own and creating his own chances. He can really ease the pressure on the player up front because he can hold the ball up. He’s strong and he can do that. “United need someone who can surprise teams. Sometimes coaches can read the gameplan of Van Gaal a bit too easily, but with this player that’s not possible.” Read more at talksport.com/football/anthony-martial-will-make-it-impossible-teams-shut-down-manchester-united-claims-louis-saha#GgWEDUHOK5W2ctL4.99

Investigation exposes Old Trafford buys... Really, this lad act like we have done some crazy ass worldwide criminals. Martial hasn't even played for us yet, but they already slashing him at every opportunities. Other than that, a lot of retired football players rate Martial highly, i can only hope this is a good sign for us. But, i slightly believe he will be a straight superstar in his first season for us. Maybe 2-3 years bedding in process then we have a world class player. But let's hope we are not going to ship him on loan to other clubs in 2-3 years.

LvG has finally got the pace he craved for. He always mentioned that pace is important to complement his possession based play. Now he has speed merchants in Memphis and Martial. Willo is no bunny either. He has almost managed to build a team that he wanted. Attributes especially if not the players per se. The scope for excuses gets minimized hereon.....

Interested to see how he is going to use Martial, is he going to play him on the right wing on the expense of Mata or as No. 9, Rooney moving to No. 10 in the expense of Herrera. Either way it means we are going to make of the two good players to sit on the bench hope Martial makes up for that.

Also, I dont think Martial is ready to be burdened with the responsibility of being the sole striker. So, my guess is, whenever he starts, it would be at the expense of Juan. His early minutes would be as a sub though. Hope he is subbed on for Rooney, and scores a hat-trick, thereby cementing his place

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has already had his say about Manchester United’s deadline day signing Anthony Martial.
The 19-year-old is yet to join up with his new club following the international break but Parlour has already claimed he will be a ‘miss’ over the course of the season.
Having had his say on six transfers that occurred this summer, the former midfielder feels that only Martial will prove to be unsuccessful.
Parlour wrote: “I look forward to seeing him play but I think it’s going to be a miss, because the money they’ve spent is an unbelievable amount.
“For a 19-year-old kid, he’s not proven. If he proves to be like a Thierry Henry, which is what a lot of people are saying, then he could obviously be a great signing but I think it is a massive gamble to take on a 19-year-old kid.
“With the money they’ve put out, I could be totally wrong but I’m going to say miss on that one.”
Martial is yet to kick a ball for United but it is interesting to see how many in the media have already written off the youngster, focusing purely on the fact United paid so much for him.
Parlour’s comments are particularly confusing, given he has not attested to the ex-Monaco man’s ability even once. Instead, like many other media outlets, he is choosing to judge an unproven player solely on his transfer fee.
The 42-year-old evidently has a short memory as he has chosen to completely ignore the fact that Martial was outstanding when Monaco dumped Arsenal out of the Champions League last season. ---------------------------------- I was confused whether to leave this article here or post it in the Laugh at Arsenal thread, because it needs to be laughed off. Fuck off Parlour. The last 3 paras actually sums up everything

Falcao had the number nine shirt and he couldn't displace Rooney.

Ofcourse the ABU media will keep banging on his fee. Donkey Carroll was proven world class and worth every penny of 35m GBP, just ask the dippers. Markovic was bought for 25m and loaned out after having the impact of a training cone.
Well apologies to the cone as atleast it serves a purpose.

Has there been such a unanimous verdict by all the French experts on a player?
Can't expect wonders from him and the fans keep that in mind. Hope Martial settles in quick.

people seem to look past the fact that if you want to buy a player, and you have identified that player as the one you want specifically, you have 2 choices: 1. pay what the selling club are asking, or 2. miss out on the player
you can't castigate a manager or chairman for missing out on superstars and then do the same when they spend on a youngster that features in the top 10 of every "stars of the future" list going.

sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/we-re-doing-this-star-told-family-his-wish-to-sign-for-man-unitedMartial’s move to Manchester United may have been revealed to the public on the 30th of August thanks to RMC, but L’Equipe on Wednesday claim the negotiations for the player started as early as the 26th of August. In a lengthy article narrating the series of events that led to the striker’s transfer to the north of England, the French newspaper say the Premier League club first contacted Martial’s family directly on the 26th in the morning. They say the message was fairly clear: Louis Van Gaal did not want Javier Hernandez and had made Anthony Martial his priority signing. Furthermore, Manchester United could not afford to wait until next year and contacted them further throughout the day. Wanting to get this done as quickly as possible, L’Equipe say Manchester United’s first offer was similar to what Inter Milan paid for Geoffrey Kondogbia: €37m + bonuses. When Martial was made aware of United’s interest, he told his relatives: “If the two clubs reach an agreement, we’re doing this.” The player’s want to move was down to the fact Manchester United were playing in the Champions League (Monaco were knocked out by Valencia) and the fact the French club had started to sell some of their best players. Philippe Lamboley, Martial’s agent, told L’Equipe this wasn’t the player’s ambition and wasn’t what they were promised when the striker moved from Lyon two years before. L’Equipe even report that a day before United expressed an interest in the player, Martial, watching the club’s game against Brugges, told his relatives: “What a club.” If that isn’t fate, we don’t know what is.

Meant to be in London, the meeting eventually happened in some offices in Paris, right next to La Gare du Nord train station.
The meeting reportedly took five hours, during which Didier Deschamps had announced Martial would be, for the first time, called up to the France first-team.
The foundations of a four year contract + option for one more were drawn, and Martial’s representatives got the reassurances they were looking for.
United’s representative, their chief scout, according to L’Equipe, were adamant the player would play an important part at the club straight away.
If that wasn’t enough, Louis Van Gaal even rang Martial on the Saturday morning (29th of August) to discuss things further.
While he had considered using Morgan Schneiderlin as his translator for the phone call, L’Equipe say one of Martial’s relatives stepped up to help.
The call was made to establish a few details: where he would play on the pitch, if he was comfortable playing behind the striker or down the left, what he was used to training wise etc…
Louis Van Gaal even asked, jokingly, if the player went out a lot in the evening, a worry put to bed straight away by Martial’s father.
The 15-minute conversation reportedly ended with Van Gaal saying: “See you Monday.”
And he did.
Martial was so convinced he contacted AS Monaco's president and pleaded for permission to accept the transfer.
