Patrice Evra has been taking a personal approach to helping Anthony Martial in any way he can before he arrives in Manchester this week to begin his career at Manchester United.
We’ve been discussing how there wouldn’t be anybody better than Evra for Martial to learn from about what it means to play for Man United and it sounds like Paddy has been showing us just why.
Writing in an excellent piece of long-form discussing Martial in detail, the Daily Mail’s Adam Crafton said: “At France’s training base at Clairefontaine, Evra took a paternal approach to Martial, inviting him for lunch on Wednesday afternoon, encouraging him to take English lessons and preparing him for the move to Old Trafford.”
There are many parallels to be had between Evra and Martial. Both played for the same youth club, Les Ullis, and both moved to United from AS Monaco (although Evra was 21, two years older than Martial who is 19). He can help him so much in terms of what to expect, how to cope with the move and offering life lessons which could make such a difference for Martial.
Evra is an unofficial ambassador for United, a player who could happily sit and talk about the club for hours without a piece of paper in his hand. He left a little bit of himself behind at Old Trafford when he moved to Juventus and that will always remain at the club. Martial has a perfect mentor in Evra and one he should be listening to as much as possible.
It would be great to be a fly on the wall when Evra had a chat with Martial for lunch but you can be sure that whatever he did discuss, it was all aimed at helping the 19-year-old prepare for life as a United player.
----------- I miss Evra and his passion for United. If Martial gets anywhere close to that level, every penny spent on him would be vindicated.

When Pat retires he needs to become a club ambassador.

The praise that Martial is getting from various quarters is exciting and scary at the same time. French players are literally sold on him. Be it ex-players like Henry, Cantona, Deschamps and Saha or the current ones like Evra, Pogba and Cabaye. Everyone is super positive on his future. Hope he is able to carry the hype and has a good head on his shoulders.

Seems to be a fair bit of chatter about him starting tonight. I hope so, as long as he don't pick up an injury.

LOUIS Saha believes Manchester United’s new £36million signing Anthony Martial can go on to become what he and others believe will be ‘the new Thierry Henry’. The maestro himself, for now at least, is not so sure. Arsenal legend Henry was reported here on Zapsportz.com recently as saying that United are taking a ‘massive gamble’ on a relatively unproven teenager who, the Sunday Times reported at the weekend, could end up costing the Red Devils £66million. That would put him in the Luis Suarez and Neymar bracket which makes Henry’s comments about United taking such a huge risk even more pertinent. Time will tell, of course, but there are plenty of French pals fighting the 19-year-old’s corner. Saha, Yohan Cabaye and Morgan Schneiderlin are all impressed with the Martial art of Anthony who is set to make his first international start against Serbia tonight as France continue their friendly countdown to the European Championship finals they will host next summer. Schneiderlin is convinced Martial has a big future ahead of him and couldn’t be in a better place, club wise, than alongside him at Old Trafford where big things are expected of a young player already likened to fellow former Monaco player Henry. It is going to be a massive challenge for Martial but one that midfielder Schneiderlin believes he is up to. Quoted on the Mirror website, the former Southampton player insisted: “He is a very good player and has already made a big impression on those around him. “He has technique, strength and will create space for the team by stretching defences and running in behind. Everyone will talk about his price but I hope the media leave him alone to develop and give him time.” Cabaye, meanwhile, says Martial has all the qualities of Henry, and former Manchester United and France striker Saha agrees wholeheartedly whilst questioning the view that his fellow countryman was a ‘panic buy’. “He’s got that speed, that power, he’s got that youth in him so he’ll surprise a lot of defenders because they don’t know him,” Saha told Omnisport. “It’s a great asset for Manchester United and that’s what they needed because up front they lack speed sometimes. “In France we call him the next Thierry Henry because he can play left or right, he’s got a great ability with the ball, he can take on three, four players with ease, there is no problem. At the same time, the new generation have no fear.” Read more at zapsportz.com/anthony-martial-really-can-be-the-new-henry-says-louis-saha-thierry-reserves-judgement/#PfVhit6Ga0eroMVX.99

New Manchester United signing Anthony Martial has impressive maturity and boundless potential, according to France star Paul Pogba. Juventus and France star Paul Pogba has hailed the maturity of "little old man" Anthony Martial following his move to Manchester United. The 19-year-old completed a sensational deadline-day transfer to the Red Devils from Monaco for a fee which could reportedly rise to £59 million (€80m) including future bonuses. Pogba, however, is in no doubt as to his compatriot's potential and believes he will make significant progress playing in the Premier League. "I already call him 'little old man,'" Pogba told Telefoot. "He's 19 and he's already very mature for his age. "He has great qualities and very big potential. He's going to bring a lot to the French team and I'm very happy for him. "Now he's changed club and he's going to get to know the Premier League. He's going to play with some big players and he'll make a lot of progress." France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has also been impressed by Martial's approach to the recent headlines. "Above all, he's still a young player and a likeable guy," the Tottenham man told reporters on Sunday. "He's quite reserved but he's involved in the squad. "He has to get his bearings too - it's never easy. There's been a lot of talk about him recently and he'll have to come to terms with all of that. "He's going to continue his progress but he has big potential to become a great player." Read more at www.fourfourtwo.com/news/pogba-old-man-martial-has-huge-potential#17bWWcKEcBv985g7.99

Getting forward 'but miscontrolling on numerous occasions' according to the Daily Mirror. I share the optimism about Martial but the spectre of David Bellion is also at the back of my mind. Only time will tell but I hope he tears it up I really do.

The Mirror seemed to pull that report out of the arse.
The gutter press seem hell-bent on making the price on Martial a really big deal. I hope the guy can get off to a fast start because it'll quickly be forgotten about if he bangs in a few goals and contributes.

The Mirror, Sun and Star are the biggest shite going with the gutter press followed by the rest. I take anything they print as a load of bollocks.

I love it. Bring on the negativity. The lad is a gem. He'll play all over the front line. Will knock in 10 this year. The press will have a field day. They'll say he's not worth the amount we paid. But he'll be learning. When he's learnt this league I reckon we will have a genuine superstar on our hands and I am fuckin giddy about having a pacy strong young striker leading our line.

meh, rooney wasn't worth what we paid for him but much maligned as he is, i'll be damned if £27m wasn't worth 10 seasons alone.
