Wonder if Jesse will be sold to West Ham, or another club, over the next few weeks, irrespective of our supposed interest in Rice? I know that we are his boyhood club etc, but surely the opportunity of playing regularly at West Ham outweighs his desire to stay and play rarely ,if at all. Strange, because he was absolutely brilliant for them last season, and Moyes hasn’t made it much of a secret that he wants him there permanently. He will probably get a new contract here. 3 year deal on the table for him already

Yeah I don't think Rice would be a good fit. He's another of those lightweight defensive midfielders who needs someone more dynamic like Kante or Phillips alongside him. And the whole point of signing a defensive midfielder is to try and move beyond McFred. I don't think McRice would be a huge improvement. Nor do I see him forming an effective partnership with Pogba.
West Ham are taking the piss a bit but so far they are the only club showing any serious interest and if we can get Varane for £40-£50m and Camavinga is going for £20-£30m because they have a year left on their contract then £20m is probably about right for Lingard especially in a depressed post-COVID market. Of course if they do end up selling Rice to Chelsea for £80m+ we have a much better chance of getting £30m but I'd rather we get a deal done so we can keep the momentum going and avoid doing too much business late in the window.
Of course Ole will probably want to keep him with his West Ham form fresh in his memory. But Ole is far too insecure to rest Bruno and give Lingard enough games to get any kind of form out of him. A few bad games and he'll lose Ole's trust again and be keeping Donny company on the bench. And as soon as that happens we'll be lucky to get £10m for him if we decide to sell next summer.

If anyone offers 25M we should just take it and move on.
Lingard did well at West Ham but has had multiple opportunities and never looked like he could cut the mustard for United as anything more than a squad player.
Sometimes you need to move people on so others get a chance. Elanga, Amad, Hannibal, Shoretire. All very talented kids who are hitting the "ready to get involved in the team now" age.
Lingard isn't going to be a starter, and nor should he be. And his place in the squad/on the bench, can be given the above. If we had no one else then keep him around, sure. But we do have others, and they should get game time now.

He didn’t become a better player at West Ham, he just proved he was one of the better players they have in a mediocre team. We don’t need him back and I’m in the “don’t want him back” camp.

www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9892059/Manchester-United-Jesse-Lingard-opens-low-periods-led-2-0-project.htmlInterview in the Mail with Jesse. The TLDR version is he was unhappy sitting on the bench and lost his confidence and started hitting the bottle. Going to West Ham made him confident and happy again. I feel bad for the kid. It is always the danger with loan moves. Perhaps he still thinks he has a chance of saving his Manchester United career. But the writing is on the wall. And all his confidence and happiness will quickly evaporate when he realizes it doesn't matter how well he trains he's never going to get into the team ahead of Bruno.

People are mad with Lingard because he turned down a new contract as he wants to play? But not mad at the club for offering him one? Nor with Pogba who has no interest in signing a new deal and will walk for free?
Sorry, I’m really confused.
