USA 1-0 Paraguay The United States are classified for the knock out stage! Well well. Things just got interesting. I think it's the expected. Out of a group stage with Paraguay, Colombia and Costa Rica (who has recently changed their manager so their WC form is gone), you'd expect the USA and Colombia to qualify, adding the home factor into the equation. But if they pass through, let's say, Argentina, it's time to worry

You're probably right, although I expected more from Paraguay. Then again, I always expect more from Paraguay.

They just need 4 more I'm never sure of what I should expect from Paraguay. In one moment they're shit, then they eliminate us (a little shit). AND AS I WAS WRITING COLOMBIA SCORED WTF 7 mins and two goals. I give up. I'd love to send Argentina home. Biggest Copa goal is to beat them in a final.

I'm in the anybody but Argentina or the US, although I do have a huge soft spot for Mexico and would love to see them win it.

Amazed the USA made it given how damn boring they look. Like they don't look that good at all.
Either way Klinsmann said something like 'Pulisic wouldn't have gotten a chance in the MLS' and that 'they call 22 year olds rookies here, in europe by 22 if you don't make it by then you're done' and to be honest, he's kind of right, the MLS draft system is stupid. football (the one that requires the use of the foot) and draft systems don't work.
Anyway don't think Brazil or Argentina are going to win this, going to say Chile pulls this out.

Anyway don't think Brazil or Argentina are going to win this, going to say Chile pulls this out. The draft system isn't stupid by itself, it's part of a system that features wage caps, designated players, and no relegation/promotion. The draft allows for teams to be relatively equal in strength and chances for the next season. In other words, you shouldn't compare to another system. What MLS should do is create a unified pyramid system with the NASL (North American Soccer League), USL (United Soccer League), PDL (Premier Development League), and NPSL (National Premier Soccer League). All of those teams should be part of a hierarchy and there should be promotion/relegation within all but the top tier. For now, the top tier can't face the financial losses of a team being relegated while they are still trying to make sure every team has its own purpose-built stadium. If they unified all of these leagues under one umbrella, then players would be able to work their way up, as opposed to what happens now is when they graduate college they join the MLS. We only look good against poor (if not piss-poor) opposition, and Klinsmann has had 5 years to get it straight and we are worse than before he took over. Relying on a 33 year old Dempsey to score the only goal against Paraguay is sad.

Relying on a 33 year old Dempsey to score the only goal against Paraguay is sad. It is still kind of stupid if you have an academy system in place which the MLS kind of has. They need a unified pyramid though regardless of pro/rel, if there is a draft or anything I'd say Tier 1: MLS Tier 2: NASL Tier 3: USL Tier 4: PDL Tier 5: NPSL maybe (would be more amateur) MLS features current teams and whoever comes in. NASL has future expansion teams and the biggest of whoever is left behind (Sacramento, Detroit etc), USL is the teams smaller than those in the NASL (like smaller cities with maybe only 500,000 people) and the PDL which is basically an academy league with some pro teams out of towns with less than 100k people (so every MLS team as a PDL and maybe have it like in spain below the liga Adelante, they have 4 leagues, i'd say if you divide it up like that, with MLS and NASL clubs having academy or second teams there, with other towns featuring pro teams it would be great). This way even without pro/rel, it would be so easy to implement it when the time comes (which for you guys, should be very very soon). Either way it should be a much more natural process in general and their should be lower divisions set in place in case players fall through the system somehow. Oh yeah not defending Klinsmann's ability, he's rubbish and should go now. Now the local options aren't great (maybe Kreis would be ready after he has a good run again) but they need to be selecting a good international option who at least appreciates the local league somewhat and understands its strengths and weaknesses without writing it off completely (in Australia, we had a dutchman and a german write off our league and honestly, their ineptitude made us worse for it, though in Pim's defense we at least got results under him).

You know, I'm on the board where any South American should take it, even the bitter neighbors, as they're already the biggest champions of the competition but I'd rather see the Brazilian youngsters getting it without Neymar.

Haven't realized Coutinho is only 24. Also, how Dunga starting Gil is not Marquinhos is being comprehension.

Chill, no need to apologize for anything Well, Barcelona openly forced Neymad to choose between Copa and the olympics, and his choice was Rio. Same for others I guess, and we have never got a golden medal at the Olympic Games before, the only thing we've never won so it's natural they'd rather sacrifice a participation in this edition to be fully fit for August. We are far from another WC glory, this might be the only one the current set of player will ever achieve.

They could still win with this squad, tournament has been less than impressive imo.

The only thing in this squad that's remotely interesting is Coutinho (ugh), William (though he is crap today) and to watch Gabriel's development.
