Talk about a heavy right foot, don’t go ANYWHERE near North Wales including Anglesey if you want to drive at anything more than 29.99 mph, I was booked there and did one of those speed awareness courses, the majority of people in the room had been booked in North Wales. Bunch of vindictive shits them Welsh inbreds 😂😂 Kindly get fucked Done one of those courses, worst 4 hours of my life (outside football). Didn't help though that I had a dabble with someone off the course on the way home Hah! Mine wasn’t too bad as the “presenters” were pretty funny and the afternoon went reasonably quickly, although my beloved did one a while later, someone at the back of her session yawned, and was told “if you do that again you will fail the course and be sent home” with the fine and the points.Mrs said she was an utter bitch throughout 🤬

Now here is my kind of thread! I'm a gearhead (on a budget). I went from a Dodge Neon, to a Merc 190e, to a b5.5 Passat (lowered, tuned, all that I reliably crap) now I'm in a 11' Accord (N American). The accord is so reliable it's a nice change. The Passat was a great car and I maintenances the hell out of it just had poor luck it left me stranded many times (water pump impeller, crank sensor, etc etc). In November I took a gamble and found a barn Porsche 928 for 3k US and I've been slowly methodically rebuilding it. I figure it's a two year project I want to get it mechanically sound this year and next year id like to re do the interior and get a respray done. Unobtainable dream car? Probably between the GTR and a Countach, I'm also astounded by the technological marvel that is the Mclaren p1. Maybe one day I can also find me a TT Supra tastefully modded. Realistically in the next few years I'd like to get me a good ole full sized truck, just so damn practical if your a DIY kind of guy. I'm also into two wheel machines I have a 03 Kawasaki 636 and a 600 shadow. This thread being revived brought me here. Did you ever resuscitate that Porsche mate?

First year on the road after 5 years of a budget friendly rebuild. Haven’t had a chance to take nice pictures yet but here it is with my Kawasaki.

And thank you for asking! Beautiful. How does it ride? Pretty good for being 40 odd years old. Corners really well, brakes well, I could imagine it being a top notch GT car back in the day. Has a good road feeling overall. I still have a few features to work out like the electronic mirrors and air con but it’s a night a day different car from the one I brought home a few years ago.

How much has the rebuild cost you till now? Are you buying local parts for this or have you been ordering it from Europe?

How much has the rebuild cost you till now? Are you buying local parts for this or have you been ordering it from Europe? I haven’t kept a tally but if I had to estimate, maybe 7k USD. Most expensive was the paint respray, 4k as I did my own prep work, the original estimate with the shop doing prep work was 10-15k alone. The only parts I’ve had to ship from Europe are brake rotors direct from Porsche, some window seals from a gentlemen in the UK that fabs them, and some small interior bits. Otherwise, there is surprisingly a small yet efficient community of owners and small business owners across the US that made sourcing parts alot more cost efficient than the dealer. Oh and eBay Motors for lots of parts, usually from scrap yards parting out vehicles. Lots of tips and tricks out there on the web for example, a guy in the US engineered a way to replace the rear main seal without taking out the engine or trans (simple shifting the rear transaxle several inches away from the engine), and another guy figured out a common battery recharging problem occurs when a single bulb in the gauge cluster burns out, as that bulb is somehow in series with the alternator charging system. Brilliant people out there.

I resonated with Clarksons story about his father.

Amazing stuff.

I ordered a Volvo XC40 PHEV last weeks I’m now of an age where pootling around in a Volvo is seen as acceptable. However, worldwide issues regarding the procurement of semi-conductors, affecting the car industry as a whole, means that it won’t be built until “April ‘22 at least” according to the salesman. Bugger.

Bugger. Volvo's are amazing automobiles. Be proud you've ordered one. That cunting semiconductor problem is exactly why I've been unable to get my PS5 till date.
