How do you decide who to consider credible and who isn’t? What criteria would your source need to fulfill and how will you verify their credibility? I’m not being tedious deliberately, I’m trying to genuinely understand your thought process. And the world has proven time and again that people really aren’t clever enough, inclined enough, smart enough to discern fact from fiction. You need but look at the Republican electorate for proof 😊 Haha, no worries - it's refreshing to be able to exchange views on the topic even if we disagree. I've been on Twitter/X a long time, so I've got a decent network of journalists and the like that have proven consistently correct (and independent). Your questions are totally valid, but just because there are questions doesn't mean the approach is flawed. Vast majority of the MSM is owned by the same, select few hedge-funds. Huge conflicts of interest everywhere. The Covid debacle created such a massive trust deficit, besides Al Jazeera I don't really read anything else in a "curated" sense. Unless it comes to sport, shower me in glorious narrative there! While your approach would work for smart and disciplined people like yourselves who seem to care about fact checking, in the larger scheme of things twitter has shown itself to do more harm than good and there is ample evidence for the same - like the events Stewart mentioned. The dominating majority of twitter users follow people whose cult of personality they subscribe to. Fact-checking, truth, evidence, are least of their concern. Twitter's format - especially having limited characters - compels authors to make their posts as eye-catching and explosive as possible, to get most eyeballs on it, which in turn churns the algorithm towards profit. This is a recipe for misinformation, lies, division and dumbs down the audience. And we're very clearly seeing it now.

I get your point of view, Red, and up to perhaps 2022 that was largely the issue.
The Community Notes feature has been a game changer though - within a few hours any post that is materially false/misleading is pointed out and flagged.
It's made the entire platform 99% more trustworthy, genuinely.
Add that to the ability to curate your feed chronologically (based on who you follow only), or based on what you'd like suggested to you + the fact that content is not being filtered, censored, throttled or moderated as is the case with most other sources, and it's much better than what people think.

The biggest problem I find with the BBC today is that it has become more than a broadcast company and is now how most people consume all news. It was never supposed to be that. What the Americans have is much worse, a profit driven industry.

At least the conspiracies are confined to this thread here! I bet I'm not the only one who came here from the Red Issue Sanctuary to escape them. Everyone says that Biden's wife is the only person who could persuade him to pull out. She must be unhinged if she thinks keeping going is a good idea. Just saw a John stewart skit on the Presidential debate and wow Biden is a wreck, i mean Trump is doing his thing as expected nothing new there but,Biden, even if he won a 2nd term by some miracle, should not be president. It shouldn't be Trump either but at this point all he has to do is show up and Let Biden do the work. i've always felt that if they couldn't stop him in the courts he would probably win again. if Biden wasn't showing his age 4 years ago, he's yelling it at the top of his lungs now.

Trump's minions are working wonders for him in the Supreme Court. What an unfathomably disgraceful verdict.

Peculiar of the Supreme Court to anoint a King in this day and age.

Peculiar of the Supreme Court to anoint a King in this day and age. Trump could kill Dems under the guise of national security and be immune. Nixon rolling over in his grave at this missed opportunity.

Doesn’t this now mean that Biden can legally assassinate Trump?

They’ve delayed sentencing in the Manhattan hush money/book cooking case now. You know, the crime he committed BEFORE he became president.
This is some Philip K Dick shit.

Things just got nuts. I'm surprised it took this long before somebody tried it to be honest. The way every political leader has turned their political opponent into their enemy ultimately creates this kind of climate.

Considering Trump was already leading the polls, he'll be re-elected with the strongest mandate in history after that.
Reaching demigod status to some at this point I'm sure, looking at some of those photos.
There are 400+ million guns in civilian possession in the US, per capita that's 120 guns for every 100 people.
Scary times!

Probably like every other mass shooting in America. Somebody looking to make a name for themselves.

They'll lap up that fist bump reaction afterwards. They love a bit of the dramatics. Plus he hasn't started milking that cow yet. Will be very surprised now if that hasn't all but sealed it for him.
