Except I don't need media to tell me how life under communism and under a brutal dictatorship feels like. I have my parents, my brother and all my relatives to explain me how life was back then. Luckily, I was born after 1989 and the fall of Ceausescu but I can guarantee you that the society has not recovered after 27 years and it will take a few more generations for that mentality to disappear completely. Some still praise Ceausescu and consider him a great ruler because he decided to repay Romania's foreign debts in the 80's. Imagine food rationing, electricity blackouts, no heat in the winter and so on. Not to mention living in fear that the secret police will arrest and sent you in a concentration camp if you said something bad about the regime. And I'm just scratching the surface with those facts. Fidel was not very different (the two of them were very good friends of course) and the people that managed to escape from Cuba and are now in the United States can tell you more about that (no one runs away from their country because they were having a good life). Your freedom should not be the price to pay for an apparent equality. Aye. Same here, but under an anti-communist military dictartorship. Do you want to know the funny not-so-funny part? My family fled Portugal because of the Salazarism. I am the first generation that's still alive and hasn't rexperienced anything like that. Lol. Some POLITICIAN praised PUBLICALLY the colonel who tortured of our former president on her impeachment process. For us, it will take many generations to live past this. Fidel may have done good things for Cuba, but that absolutely isn't an excuse for the human rights violations.

As each month goes by, I'm more and more convinced that Orwell didn't actually write 1984. It was sent back from the future as a warning. Which we don't seem to be interested in heeding. On this theme, The Investigatory Powers Bill in the UK has gone under the radar, but some of the provisions that are in it are shocking imo. The worst part is that MPs legislated that they & Lords should be exempt. Disgraceful.

I am very much against Trump and what he stands for, but this photo is amazing. Romney's sadness and Trump's shit-eating grin are just perfect.

So they are still counting votes and Trumps lead is getting smaller in some states so he's now suing to stop the recount apparently.

Counting has finished in every state, but the Wisconsin recount has started. Clinton picked up 1 vote.

Not bothered by the China thing either way but I think it was probably just because he didn't know better. He will have a lot of foreign policy to brush up on.

Jill Stein wants this recount for what? Oh, because the American people demand it...what a load of rubbish. She raised around 3 million for her campaign, but has fleeced almost 7m for the recount effort? Where are the recounts where Hillary had a narrow margin of the winning vote? The only states that are being strong armed are on some states that Trump won by narrow margins.
The last recount of a presidential race was in 2000, and Gore turned over 1200 votes, and still lost Florida. Trump has over 10,000 plus vote differential on the states that Jill is contesting. Never going to be overturned in 1 million years.
You recount for one of two reasons, either the voters were not registered in some fashion to vote and should be discounted, or the votes cast were somehow tampered with. She has not proven either case, and this smells like dirty politics to me.

Our public "servants" in this "Government of the people" don't leave office rich, with high level positions in companies that make their bucks on govt contracts, by overestimating the apathetic muppets who go to the polls and vote. For me, there is no difference between either big political party, they fleece the public, kiss the asses of the rich and the big corporations, and point the finger of blame at "the other guy" and while the voters are fighting about their choices (without knowing a fooking thing they are babbling on about) the pols live the good life on our tax dollars.
