I should have mentioned before - I dislike Windows with a depth usually reserved for Fellaini. I blame Windows 7 in work. Is 10 a massive improvement?

It's sublime. It truly is. I haven't. I have hated every iteration of Windows I have used post-XP. Now actively avoid them. I'm by no means 'one of those' Apple fanboys, but Windows feels so user unintuitive to me. What are the new Surfaces like for grunt? How important is the chip/RAM balance in tablets in general?

I would love a Surface. Like others have said, you don't have to restrict yourself to FM mobile when you can have the full version. Windows 10 is light years away from 7 as well. Will you have the option of trying one out for size before purchase?

I don't actually want the 'full' version. They've done too much with it now, it's too much work. I just want the slimmed down 'Classic' version (that they now call Touch). Which is also different to the Mobile version, I think?
I might actually be able to get my hands on the latest Surface - we get all our office IT from an HP partner. My dad has a 1st/2nd Gen Surface he doesn't even use somewhere. Won it at our IT provider's Christmas do a few years ago!

It's very efficient and a joy to work with. Surface just enhances the experience. The Surface hardware is superb too. Not just build quality , but design, looks etc. I love it. I have the Surface Book 2, but you could look at the Surface Pro 2. That's more of a pure tablet which doubles as a laptop, while the SB2 is a laptop which doubles as a tablet.

Just looked at the Surface Pro 2 - good grief that is expensive for a tablet. Only sought out the i5 or i7 varients as they are the only chips to compete with the A10x in the iPad Pro, and sweet mother that is expensive.

Tech folk! I would like a tablet, almost entirely for playing FM Touch, and would like to know the best one for that please. I am used to buying laptops so seeing devices with 2GB of RAM at the top end of the market is completely throwing me off my game. Also I can't apply my usual processor knowledge either. I'm not spending ridiculous amounts but at the same time don't have a restricted budget for the best. Processing power and portability are my two biggest factors. Any assistance appreciated. This may be slightly controversial, but if it really is a tablet just for FM Touch - what about a Nintendo Switch instead? That way you could play a ton of other games as well if you wanted. It also has thumbsticks and buttons which I assume the FM Touch interface utilises in some way, and you should be able to easily play it on your TV as well as on the go if you wanted (best to check on that though). The main downside is that the Switch is smaller than your average tablet, so the screen may be smaller than you'd want. If you do decide on getting a Switch, get Zelda and Mario Odyssey as well - they were the two best games released last year on any console. Avoid FIFA, it's crap on the Switch apparently. Edit: Switch on AmazonFM Touch Download PageFM Touch on Switch Metacritic

But on the flip side you get something which you can use for any task whatsoever. Very good in terms of future proofing yourself in that particular technological aspect.

It's a halfway house between that and full. I haven't played much of it but it looks like they try to model it on the FMs from like 2008-2012 or so. They have also offered Touch for PC free with pre-orders of the full version on Steam in the past couple of years, and it has cross-platform cloud saving I think so that may be useful.

They halfway house customers too. You can have FM without their extraneous bells and whistles crap, but you can't use the pre-game editor with Touch. I have also discovered that while free on Mac/PC, the Android or iOS versions aren't free when you buy the full game. SI have really turned into a bunch of arseholes.

Girlfriend wants one though when she gets back from China so might keep her around long enough to get FM on it ...

The surface tablets really are great bits of kit (price aside). Windows 10 is great bar the fucking forced updates.

If you're a server / network administrator wait until server 2016 comes in properly with forced updates on that!
