I don't know if I said this on here or in a private message but- a while back, I got chatting to a friend of a friend. He was the uncle of a former Utd player, didn't make it here but gone on to have a decent career. The man obviously knew his football, had some insights into various things etc. But he mentioned that people at Utd were absolutely raving about Gomes, like off the charts stuff. His size was a wee bit of a worry but everything else, skill attitude etc was bang on. The feeling was that all going well this was going to be a real player. Ravel without the insanity was the hope. And that some blue bastards were already sniffing about.
I remember it mainly because of the unusual name for a manc lad.
