More expensive per game, worse coverage (bar excellent goals show), and the whole system of having 2 providers showing different games is anti-consumer anyway. Plus a lot of people think BT are using Openreach money or similar to fund BT Sport, which would make them even more corrup and hated.

Yeah it's all bollocks, I wish there was some type of pay per view service per match.

Really buzzing for this game. Granted, it's Basel and they're probably a similar standard to the opposition we would've faced in the Europa League, but there's just something magical about it being in the real competition again. Can't fucking wait. The only tragedy is BT Sport. BT Sport is so bloody expensive. They want you to get it with the internet but their internet offers are overpriced themselves - their first year deal for internet is literally 3x the cost of what I am paying for the same speeds. I already have Sky and I'm simply not paying for BT again. The whole rights system is fucked. Letting different broadcasters get the rights only increases the price for the consumer, unless multiple channels can offer the same matches (which will never happen). Having a monopoly isn't better, but if there could be a monopoly with strict limits on price increases enforced then it could work. Not free market, but the free market in football rights simply does not work unless multiple broadcasters show the same matches. This is all before the 3PM ban, which is also fucking stupid. What could happen is that all PL football rights are packaged together and sold directly by the PL as an online pass for like £30 a month. For that price you can watch any PL game online. Then sell the rights to Sky too who can charge £40 p/m and include the CL, cups and other leagues in that price, which the online pass don't have. Keeps Sky competitively priced but prevents the anti-consumer issues we have now. And this is all before remembering that BT's coverage and pundits are at least 75% utter shit (the other 25% being Rio and the admittedly excellent Goals Show) as well. In the scenario above they would hopefully fuck off. I've gotten quite lucky with the price. I moved house last year, and the street I've moved to didn't have Virgin internet at the time, which was a shitter cos I was on mates rates with them. I got a quality deal with BT for the first year, then somehow managed to haggle for an even better one for this next year, using the fact that Virgin now operate in this street and I could be on mates rates again as leverage. My issue price wise is having to get BT and Sky to get all the games. BT acted like they were doing everyone a favour by breaking up Sky's "monopoly", but in reality, it just means you're paying for two things. And their commitment to showing some games on that Showcase channel has been a disgrace too. Most people don't know it exists because they don't advertise it, and if you do know it exists, then good look finding out what games are on and when, because they don't advertise that either. Doesn't affect me, because I've got BT Sport, but it's a fucking shame that your average man in the street can't watch European football for free, like they would've been able to for the previous nigh on 30 years. Then there's the quality issue. The pundits and commentators are largely fucking shite. They keep trying to reinvent the wheel. There's about 12 commentators on every game, plus some daft cunt ex referee they consult who inevitably either tells you something you already know, or gets the decision wrong himself even with the benefit of infinite slow motion replays of the incident. I don't love Sky's pundits or anything, in fact I hate the "banter" collective of Merson, Pinocchio and Kammy, but you accept that because it was there first. It's almost a horrific institution. But fuck BT for somehow putting something even fucking worse together. It's almost impossible to fucking ruin football coverage as much as they have. Is the Goals Show that effort at Soccer Saturday where there's about 14 of them on a sofa with clipboards? If so, I hate that too. Apologies for the long rant there. It's actually a relief to get it out. Oh and whilst I'm on BT, fuck Jake Humphrey too. Worst bloke on TV, the arrogant, lanky streak of horses piss. Annnnnd relax.

It really winds me up how no one is doing anything about the consumer consistenttly getting screwed. The Goals Show is hosted by James Richardson in the CL group stages, and it basically shows every goal and highlights from all 8 games as they come in. Pundits are usually European journalists like Rafa Honegstein and Julien Laurens as welll as British ones like James Horncastle. None of the idiot ex-pros. I highly recommend you watch it on CL group stage nights where United aren't playing, you get all the action from all 8 games and the analysis is 100x better. In typical BT fashion, the same group did the European Football Show - think Sunday Supplement but intelligent people instead of morons and European football instead of the PL - and they cancelled it.

Since dad passed away I'm paying for BT Sports now, and I'm struggling to justify it on top of sky sports. I've had to give up all my Xmas and birthday presents for the next couple of years.

the joys of IPTV. no messing around with sky and Bt. cant bring myself to pay for these ludicrous packages
buzzing for this though, even better the missus is out for tea!
this might be attackin but there is no reason we couldn't cope with the defensive duties too. pogba just needs to be disciplined and do that side of the game too. these are going to most likely defend so lets get at them. bring the excitement. but then again this is Jose and not FIFA
................DDG
Tony .. Lindelof .. Smalling .. Young
..............Matic
Mata .. Miki .... Pogba .. Martial
.......... Lukaku

Just on the whole BT conversation. It would appear that they have gone back on what they said last year in terms of no longer showing Champions League matches for free as City's game is available on BT Sport Showcase as well as online for free tomorrow. Just something to look out for in the coming weeks for people who don't have BT as I'm assuming we'll be on for free at some point as well.

Would like to have seen Rashford's debut in the UCL. Hopefully he'll get on at some point.

Re the TV thing, I've booted Sky because I hate paying well over £100 per month, was looking at rivers although patchy at best, now looking at Virgin at £70 odd per month which includes BT and Sky Sports, ,phone and 100 meg fibre (yeah right) anyone else got this, or a similar deal?
