reality is we aren't the richest club anymore, city, psg, Chelsea etc can blow us out and then find some shady way to justify where they got the funds to avoid any penalties. we are what we are, a club that is struggling to hold onto it's identity, style, status (football wise). before if we wanted a player we would likely get them, if they had doubts a call from fergie would sort that out. I think we have work to do and throwing money at it as we have found out since moyes left is not the answer. we need a proper coach to pick the team and personally I think a DOF who will act as the buffer between the coach and ED/Glazers. We as a club have resisted this for so long but reality is we have to adapt and change. We are in a decent position where we have some darn good young players who really have it within themselves to be world class, we also have some darn good mature players that can help the young ones. You listen to the likes of Herrera, matic, mata, young those guys know who they are playing for and it's important that they really mix with the younger players. anyway lets see how this pans out in 10 games time, if Jose decides that he is gonna show everyone he is still the boss then likely we win all 10 games, if he decides he didn't get what he wants then it's gonna be a mixed bag We aren't the richest club anymore? Really? Take a look at the Forbes list, we're top of it. £2.86 billion. Still unable to address 3 key areas in the squad in this window. Beggars belief.

Bit of a reminder that we can still sell outside the Premier League. Think we'll ship Darmian in the next couple of weeks. Probably depends on Valencia laying off the cake.

With Rojo not being sold and them wanting Jones, Smalling, Lindelof, Bailly as well... I can see us playing a back 3 and it wouldn't bother me either as I think we have the personnel for it

Thank you, was thinking the same. Also our owners wealth is relatively small compared to that of the other clubs mentioned so in real terms we aren't the richest club. whilst we would be ok if our owners bailed out unlike the others that is another issue entirely

Not caught up on the 20+ pages in this thread yet so sorry if someone has already said this but after reading Daniel Taylors version of the window, Mourinho has every right to be furious with Woodward. Woodward is not a football man, Toby would have stepped our Starting XI up another level. Who the fuck is he to veto it because of resale value and then he bragged about saying he would have paid in excess of 100m for Varane and even discussed it over breakfast with Perez. Madrid would never dream of selling their starting CB, especially with his potential. That's a no go straight from the start. Article here, someone not on their phone is welcome to post it in full! amp.theguardian.com/football/2018/aug/09/manchester-united-veto-jose-mourinho-wishlist-cash-fears?CMP=share_btn_tw&__twitter_impression=true

It's not even 'richest' Most people equate that with cash in the bank, we're the most valuable 'brand'

Because we have dickheads in charge. Extending every buggers contract regardless of whether they are good enough and then having trouble moving them on because their wages are too high.

I really don't agree with it. Toby is not a player of such status and skills to say that he is infinitely better than any of our CBs. Can you say that with Toby in the back you will be calm against Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero, Eden Hazard, Mo Salah, Lionel Messi, Gareth Bale, Neimar and so on? I dont think so. On the other hand against likes of Tosun, Arnautovich, Benteke and so on it really does not matter if you have Toby or Phil Jones, They both will do the job Yes. Because that's exactly what he's done in England, Spain and the European Cup for the last 7 years. FFS! Please stop being a mong of a WUM. Toby??? you serious? for 7 years? In which European cup did he build a solid defense against top clubs? can you give me an example of 5 such matches? A bench player at Atletico and Spurs? A sub to Davinson Sanches? There was no time in history Toby Alderweireld was in the top 25 defenders in the world and it will never be such time. Moaning about not signing Toby is very strange, he is an average defender by any measure. and he is getting OLD

Not getting rid of Darmian and Fellaini is the real crime and we will be still counting on Jesse Lingard Thats the problem
