I’m probably in the minority but I wouldn’t mind if our players had to give them a guard of honor. Might stick in their craws enough to remind them next season not to fucking draw with the likes of Burnley and Soton at home and lose to shite like Newcastle and Huddersfield. Huddersfield for fuck sake.

Would be funny if Mou said we're not doing it out of spite.

Really dont think it would have the desired effect of giving the players the kick up the arse they need. We dont have enough leaders on the pitch to look our players in the eyes and say to them remember this. This is humiliating we want them to be applauding us on the pitch as champions not us applauding them. Would love to have a keane robson ferdinand evra type who get what united are about, who get our history players who play for the shirt.

I found it difficult to decide between the two scenarios but decided to avoid that if there was an option merely on the basis that giving City the guard of honour would only humiliate the fans when today's football mercenaries are most likely to not give a fuck. Apart from the local boys who for the most part had good seasons. If they were to be crowned champions ahead of the derby it would be small time of us to not do it. We were so proud that Dong got it at Chelsea

They only thing that will improve us is some quality additions to the coaching team and 4 new players in MF, CB and FB, not giving them a guard of honour, but beating them well

Huddersfield for fuck sake. This is 100% what we should do. City have played the best football this season and got results when it mattered. At the end of the day they have been the best team by a mile and are playing attractive football. If our players need to man up and give them guard of honour, so be it. Didn't we give Chelsea a guard of honour when they won the league with Jose? Would be hypocritical if Jose didn't offer one.

Whilst some seem pretty 'meh', and none are quite as strong leaders as Keane/Rio/Vidic, I do think most care. Certainly I think Pogba, Lingard and Rashford, despite their social media jokes in their downtime, care deeply about the results of the club. The Spanish trio (Mata, De Gea, Ander) for sure as well. Jones annoys me but I think he does too. Valencia probably does, though there's a part of me that wonders if he actually knows what's going on half the time. Martial I can never tell because he's never shown an emotion in his life. He's a younger, French Raymond Holt. Basically, I think most of them care. We could absolutely do with a leader like the ones you listed to give them a kick and vocalise it and channel it into their performances, but I think they would be absolutely gutted to give City a guard of honour. It's like Beckham - I bet he would be doing all the stuff the social media crew do if he were playing now, but no one ever doubted his commitment to the team. That's probably at least partly because Keane had a go at him every now and then and made him channel his commitment into his game. Likewise Ronaldo later on. I really believe most of these guys do care, but need to show it more.

We've received a few over the years, it would be incredibly poor and pretty classless to refuse when the tables have turned.

if we can do, we have to give the Guard of Honour. city have thoroughly deserved it this year and in the name of sport and being a good sportman/man you should respect them for their accomplishment. then get fired into them and use it as ammo for next year.
on this game though.. is carrick fit ? if so... Matic needs a rest before we play the dippers
-------------- DDG
Tony - Lindelof - Smalling - Shaw
----- McT - Carrick - Pogba
Sanchez ----- Rom ----- Martial

Regardless of what Mourinho has said about not needing to sign any attacking players, replacing Martial (who always looks uncomfortable there) with Lingard for the RW/RF slot shows that we badly we are lacking in that position. We really should be prioritising someone who naturally plays there in the summer.
As for tonight, I'm putting £7.50 on over 5.5 goals (12/1). I'm basically going to lose £7.50, BUT, I keep trying to convince myself that at least one of our matches this season will end up being a goal fest.
