One point - Carragher says that the family have been "dragged into" this media story.
No, they weren't. The dad chose to film the scene, and then chose to give it to a national newspaper, and was probably compensated handsomely for it. He will have known the media scrutiny it would get. He wasn't dragged into anything.

Back to the game. Smalling channeled his inner Mike for that game. He was excellent for the most part. Not read the thread, but if he scored that OG, this thread would be full of it wanting him and his first born dead. I thought most people were fair about Bailly - saying he had had an excellent game, but there was no excuse for such an awful mistake.

Young has been largely gash since his return from suspension but that was excellent against Salah. Also, McTominay did another really good job. He was poor against Palace but great against Chelsea and the Scouse. He’s a kid so inconsistency is to be expected.

I was saying Smalling could've been as good as he was, scored that OG and basically be public enemy number 1. Comment on pundits I like: Rio. He's basically what we hoped Neville would be. Lampard is excellent. Warren Barton on US Tv is good. I have a fondness for Ian Wright's enthusiasm about the game of football. Like he proper loves it. Whisper it quietly, Gerrard's not awful either.

Sitting back and dealing with a constant threat, he's relatively reliable. When we're on top and he has to spend time not defending then switching on, or do literally anything with the ball other than clear it/shovel 6 yards, that's when he gets into trouble. A bit like Cahill at his best.

issue with smalling is consistency thus why he gets hammered, cant be good one game and then poor next 3 or 4, he has been at the club long enough to know the standards, he is old enough to know consistency is expected in his game. It's rather frustrating when a player shows they have the quality but then they just don't do it regularly.

Forgot to mention it on Saturday, but the atmosphere was superb for a change. It's Liverpool, and the atmosphere should be excellent, but there was a definite edge/crackle/ferocity that's often missing for the biggest games. When the whole Fergie Stand are on their feet and chanting with 3 minutes to go - even momentarily - you know it's an occasion.
