Didn't realise we were playing Wednesday as well.

Bailly and Smalling both awful in the first half last week. Smalling scores, but he was still awful at what his actual job is. Smalling has also been worse for longer, though Bailly has hardly set the world alight this season.
Bailly dropped, Smalling starts.
People wonder why people think Jose plays favourites, is inconsistent with selection demands, and get annoyed about it?

Aside from that actually very please with the XI. Nice to see Lindelof get a game. Very pleased the midfield 3 stays and good to see Mata in against a side who we will need to break down using his creativity most likely.
Would like to have seen Shaw start. I also get why neither start today, but I would like to see one or both of Rashford and Martial play in midweek - and the other brought on if only one starts then. Both for themselves and also to rest others for the FA Cup semi which, barring a potential final, is by far our biggest game left this season.

I agree, love to put West Brom down today by smashing them!

Out of the two Smalling has still been the better of late, we also have a mid week game as well as a semi final on Saturday. Is he going to drop a player who scored the winner against City last week ? Is that really favouritism? Who do you replace them with? Rojo, Lindelof and Jones don't exactly inspire confidence either.

I'd like Jones to start today over Smalling, yes. Jose has already fucked up on Rojo IMO because he gave him a new contract when he should have shown him the door this summer.

Fair point about midweek but I don't think Smalling has been better than Bailly recently (not saying Bailly has been good though). He could if the player was absolutely disgraceful at executing the job he was on the pitch for, which Smalling was for a lot of the game last week. Today I'd rather we started Jones if possible. I'd be happy if Rojo never wore the shirt again.

So a player who has been injured for 2 months and has played no part in any of the wins against good teams whilst he was absent should walk back in the team? Well I'd call it favouritism if he did.

Just out of curiosity - you don't seem to have had a problem with Alexis walking into the team. Why can't Jones? My principle is disappointing players should be dropped. I think Smalling has been disappointing and so Jones deserves a chance to take his spot - in the short term anyway.

Before he got injured he was awful against Newcastle. Very few players walk straight back in the starting 11 after being out for so long unless they are quality. Jones is no better than any of the others. Why should a player who is constantly injured be starting every game when fit? If I was in the team and I kept getting dropped for a player who is unreliable fitness wise I would be pissed off .

If Jones isn't ready to start then so be it. But I doubt we'll get confirmation of that.

So a player who has played in all of those games against decent opposition gets dropped for a player who is regularly in and out of the team due to injury and also scored 2 important goals during two of those games where we had to come back from 2 nil down? How does that make sense? Jones played crap against Newcastle before he got injured. He didn't even make the squad last Saturday despite being fit. I wouldnt be surprised if Jose hasn't given up on him tbh.
