Fergie's genius was as a man manager, at least IMO. I think anyone who has won big trophies has to have that skill in their repertoire. But, as Karma noted, I don't think this is the same league, hard for me to imagine any team, not having an owner that is willing to throw money into the mix on a consistent basis, winning multiple titles, at least not in the PL, where the level of talent is pretty incredible.
An that talent is "guided" by fooking agents that are working on commission based on salary.

The Sunday Telegraph says that Martial is pleased United refused to sell him, because he now thinks he can outlive Jose at the club.

The Sunday Telegraph says that Martial is pleased United refused to sell him, because he now thinks he can get outlive Jose at the club. Seems a decent enough bet.

At least that would mean he wants to stay - if true that is.

Fergie would piss this league with the squad we have. Fergie would piss this league because all of the noise coming from various factions (agents, players, press, Woodward etc) would’ve been shut down, controlled or never allowed to happen in the first place. Despite his own rhetoric to the contrary, Fergie was bigger than the club. Now that he’s gone, the aforementioned noise makers feel at liberty to vie for control, and are pushing their own agendas at the expense of the club’s on field success, something that wouldn’t have happened/continued under Fergie. EDIT: Don’t usually read his stuff but the boss makes this point in an article I came across this am. news.paddypower.com/football/2018/08/25/patterson-media-mourinho-stop/?AFF_ID=16562&dclid=CNCTq6qui90CFRYrTwod3dsLAwFergie would ban journalists for pulling these stunts or portraying him in an unfavourable light. As, Martin Samuel is quoted as saying, United sells, so the threat of a ban was taken seriously. While this has been said in other contexts, we are the second biggest club in the world. We need to start acting like it again.

The other option is that it’s part of the club’s attempts to change the record and stem the negativity/toxicity in the press lately.

Fergie would piss this league with the squad we have. Fergie wouldn't even keep half the squad we have in the first place...

"I hurtled down on the train from Euston to Lille to sign the young French defender Rapahel Varane," Ferguson wrote in Leading in 2015. "David Gill was getting into the finer points of the contract with Lens when Zinedine Zidane got wind of this and somehow scooped him up for Real Madrid from under our noses. I don't think Jose Mourinho had even seen Varane play."
How convenient also for Zidane that United's two high-profile wantaways are French. In a 2016 Adidas advert, a five-year-old Paul Pogba is clad in a France shirt adorned by Zidane's name and number 10. Anthony Martial may also be emboldened by the speculation surrounding Zidane with the United manager's post.
Woodward is a fucking idiot holding onto this maniac, unless of course the drama gets more clicks and that's what really counts. What's the point when nobody really wants to play for him or come here. The ones with real talent and major options anyway
We need someone to improve and execute a longer term vision and get a manager who modern players really want to play for and learn from. Transfers are just stop gaps until that happens

We need a January window like we had in 2006. I recall at that time the need for midfield reinforcements with Keane's departure. Yet the genius which was Sir Alex, wanted to bolster the back 4 so we brought in relative unknowns at that time in Vidic and Evra. I don't think we could ever top that. I believe we got both for less than 12 million pounds. Could you imagine the going rate now for them or for that quality of player. We'd have to break records for a CB and FB to get it done.

I would add "Owners who are willing to open Purse strings" to that list of things that are needed, perhaps at the number 1 position

Agree about the confusing thing. An if the purse strings are open for a new manager, I would think that it would be because no other manager with a "rep" would be willing to sign a contract unless there was guarantee that the money would flow to back his visions.
Thing is, I believe that Jose could win with that kind of backing, he has proven it. I do not put as much blame for current problems on him as I perceive many fans do, but I still think that where pro sports are concerned, unlike University or amateur sport, it is more about the money than the manager or coach anyhow. Games are games, and winning "strategy" is not something that you see a great many new revelations in. X's and O's are still basic to the winning. An one would hope Jose knows how to use chalk to draw on a freekin board.
I am less fanatical about trophies, in all sports, than most fans might be. I played all Navy ball in 3 sports for about a decade before got a bit to old to compete at that level (Good small college ball
would be comparison as far as the skill levels) an I watch pro sports for the players as much as to follow a club. Their skills are amazing to me.
United is the only team that I "support" in terms of following an making my neighbors aware of my feelings at the early hours a lot of the matches are televised at
