Or it could just be, play me and i'll show you I'm your best LB and I'll sign a new deal. Also fair enough.

I think Shaw has played his hand very well, for himself anyway. Can't blame him but all this talk of wanting to earn a new deal rather than just be offered one when he knows he can talk to anyone he wants in January is bollocks. Tend to disagree with this assessment. For player that has been plagued by criticism and injuries in his time at United it's not surprising to me that he'd want to earn his keep.

Mata and Herrera can both go, tbf. Replace dependable, happy to be squad players with who? Ozil etc, fuck that. They never moan, do the job. Sign them up.

I thought we can automatically trigger a one year extension to prevent this happening?

Unless its after Mourinho we know this isn't going to happen. I'd like to see Mata and Herrera stay, mainly because they are beautiful Spanish bastards, but also because as Dek has said they never moan and wear their heart on their sleeve. Plus Herrera usually turns up in big games unlike a few so would be beneficial keeping hold, again depending on the replacement(s).

young and mata should be allowed to leave. both have served us very well. Young because of age and mata because he is not a winger and we don't do well with no.10's shaw should be getting signed up like tomorrow and the same for Ander.

Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera are free to talk with rival clubs in the January transfer window... I could genuinely see us losing 3 of the 4 for nothing given the incompetence of Ed, and them hating the manager. Young might want a swansong somewhere else, but he'd be the most likely to stay. Keep Shaw.

Are they free to talk to rival clubs in Jan? I thought it was just foreign clubs?

I disagree that those two should be let go, but also, wouldn’t this be two Mata replacements and no Herrera replacement? I know Periera has played well deep this season but he’s still pretty different.

I'd keep Young for another season as cover on the left. See how Shaw gets on but if he keeps this form up then he should be offered a new contract in January to tie him down for longer.
As for Mata and Herrera I'll never want them to leave or even suggest it. They both love the club, supporters and love getting one over on the vermin as well which is a bonus so they can stay forever as far as I'm concerned.

The Evening Standard say we are close to signing Andrea Berta, who is currently Atleti’s DoF.
