The first half didn’t suggest he’d lost the players at all. We played well and should have gone in at least a goal up. I’ve defended Rom but that miss was incredible. Whereas Kane’s header was brilliant, even if Jones was pathetic. Football is fine margins. The 2nd goal was a killer due to Herrera’s brain fart. And if Jesse hadn’t dithered and just hit the thing it’s 2-1 with about 15 minutes to go. I know it doesn’t really suit the doomsday scenario but Utd were good for large parts but got done due to individual errors and dreadful finishing. Brighton was a disgrace but we actually played better last night. Cue ‘how standards have dropped’ from the reactionaries... The second goal was a killer due to Smalling not taking responsibility and tracking Eriksen. Herrera is a central midfielder who was idiotically played in defence. I'm sick of the excuses. 'Better than Brighton' isn't good enough. The last five years hasn't been good enough. Longer, if we're really honest. We've been losing ground to city for a decade. The club is fucked. The second goal looked to me like Smalling thought Eriksen was a mile offside. Which he should have been had Herrera not been playing him on. I have zero idea why he was back there in the first place. My post was in direct response to someone saying he’d lost the players. Last night, first half in particular, didn’t look like he had. The club is absolutely fucked.

Think this was locked in error. Fire away now. Get rid of the Glazers, then Woodward, then Jose, then the mods!

'Until we can't get CL anymore'.
We're currently 6 points behind Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea and 4 points behind City.
We're going to be reeling them in are we?? Playing prehistoric Plan B hoofball to Tree when games are going against us?
'Let's stick it out'. Seriously??
Relax. I kinda agree with Jay. I'd stick with him till at least half season in TBH. Not an optimist, but I do think the players need to pick their spirits back up and Mourinho needs to do better at motivating them.

Zidane is the only top manager that would be able to come in mid season. I'd rather see it out and appoint in June if there's a strong chance we could get Pochettino or Jardim.

Just to add onto this - I think Mourinho needs to start using the "us against everyone else in the world" mind games, and psycho the players into thinking that the world is out trying to pounce on us and we "need to shut them up". Or whatever. I'm a bunch of mixed bag of ideas at this point.

Unless you're names' Shaw, Smalling or Fred, you can fuck off as far as I'm concerned if you're a United player this morning. Smalling got absolutely embarrassed for the third goal. You can't do that at this level. He's still the best of a bad bunch. Smalling + 1 most likely Bailly. I don't think Lindelof is going to work unfortunately and Jones is a train wreck.

Didn’t Smalling and Bailly have a decent enough partnership going before? Or have I completely lost my mind?

Ugh. The media bombardment of Jose and United is getting really tiring at this point. We're not going to sack him 3 games into the season, let's stick it out until we cannot get CL anymore, at which point he'll be gone. Played really well first half, thought we had the better of Spurs tactically too with that formation and personnel. Luke Shaw slowly emerging from his 3 years sabbatical and looking like a player again! 'Until we can't get CL anymore'.
We're currently 6 points behind Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea and 4 points behind City.

You know how this board work, why would you expect any other way?

Been thinking about the formation ... 3-5-2 is a cowards formation. It is the antithesis of United football as there are no wingers. And it was a home match. Feels like he is pushing the wedge with Woodward by "showng him up" with bad defensive play. As in ... does not matter if we drop points so long as he gets his point accross that he cannot get more out of this defense so he needs to buy better players. I hope I am wrong. Because that could de-rail an entire career (the players of course) if true.
This season could be a mail in if Mourinho has indeed decided that Woodward is the enemy.

I will never be a fan of 3 at the back, particularly in a 3-5-2. I understand it has as many tactical merits as the next formation, and plenty of teams/managers use it and play great stuff (including Pochettino). But it just doesn't feel right to me. Not for United.

Or whatever. I'm a bunch of mixed bag of ideas at this point. I think he's doing exactly that. There is so much lazy polemic journalism out there surrounding the club and Jose personally that everything the manager does or says is used as evidence of an impending meltdown/3rd season syndrome or to support a previously espoused theory of said crisis. If you were naive enough to believe everything Fergie came out with in the press then I can't imagine the ride his tenure must've been for you. Jose is no different. His 3 titles and storm out yesterday was a shot at the press for their constant negative spin. I just wish he would go one step further and start banning them from all press conferences. They need us way more than we need them. There has been a shift in the last week to a circle the wagons approach. We are united, everyone is happy, the manager has more titles than all the other managers combined, clap the fans, hugs and smiles for Shaw etc., is all in the aid of removing this negativity and toxicity that surrounds the club.

Also fuck them home fans that wanted photos with Moura after the game, christ on a bike. Yes I agree but he's a player who defied age and scored two goals at OT at 48 years old.

Jose used to have the same touch in regards to the us against them siege mentality (re: Porto, Chelsea 1st stint) but its hard to get some of the players to fight for you when you've thrown them under the bus repeatedly.
