The difference attacking full backs make to any side is huge. To us? It’s like we just started playing a different sport. The shit irony of it is, is that we've been playing wingers who should be better at attacking than fullbacks. Martial and Rashford were shit in the first half especially, but once Martial decided he wanted to play a game of football, Shaw opened up that left side for him. Sanchez has also looked a bit more effective, if not brilliant recently, and that IMO is not down to the coincidence of Shaw starting most of those games.

Which is why we should be moving away from Valencia and Young both starting games.

Very good performance from young Dalot. I think it isn't a stretch to say he should slot into RB a lot more from now, he looks so natural at it. It would allow Valencia to get in on the right wing, which wouldn't be a completely bad thing. I want Dalot to have made that position his own by the end of the season. I love Tony V. He's been an absolute warrior in that position for us but what I saw from this kid yesterday has me very excited.
Him and Shaw could see us settled at full back for the next 10 years.
I agree, but I think we should manage our expectations. He's very young and still needs to settle , one bad game in the premier league right now could ruin him and the confidence he's developed. Cup games are better for his development right now. Tony V should and will probably start when fit.

We're not gonna win the League if we keep playing Tony, same as we won't if we start Dalot in more than cup games. Tony is 33, Dalot could be excellent and will need games to develop.

The difference attacking full backs make to any side is huge. T o us? It’s like we just started playing a different sport.Exactly.. been doing my head in for years. It's encouraging to see both Shaw and Dalot last night. He will need to improve defensively of course he's so young, but Dalot looks like we will finally have a RB who can play. That was really positive last night

I really hope Dalot is great for us, and he definitely could be, but I remember thinking Darmian would be great for us too so I'm witholding judgement for a while!

Were the fullbacks allowed to attack because of this? I think so.

I also wouldn't drop him instantly either just because our new RB had one decent game so far. Its nice to see a natural RB playing for a change but one step at a time. Also lets not get ahead of ourselves, as much as I want it to be true. He's played one game, lets not do a "Januzaj" and over hype the lad before he's had a chance to settle.

Tony has been an amazing servant. In fact he has often been our best outfield player. However, he is winding down his career. At this level how many years left does he really have? You could even argue he is showing signs that his level is dropping. Second half of last season was maybe the most inconsistent hes been for us.
Either way I'm delighted we may have already sorted his long term successor. Trying not to get too excited just yet though as false dawns are our specialty at the minute.

That's fair enough and I would be last person to diss Tony...but we need to move on and I guess they could share the load this season... However, I liked what I saw in Dalot and I think he has far more about him than Januzaj...
