John Murtagh seems to be getting mentioned a lot this morning as DoF. I'm not up to speed with my DoF's, what is his background etc? Moyes' man. Fuck him.

People are disappearing down a rabbit hole with the DOF thing, it's like if it's anyone connected with the club = BAD, someone from outside, foreign and possibly under 50 yo = sign him up lol. United are a large organisation on the football side of things, very possible that the perfect DOF is already within the ranks. Each and every candidate should be judged on merit regardless of where they came from.

Has he assessed the competency of everyone at Man United? I'd say he barely knows who's still there tbh. I agree by and large with what he says, best man for the job, but if that's an internal candidate so be it. Even an experienced DOF could take a few windows to find their way, doubt whoever we employ will have an instant impact tbh.

Each and every candidate should be judged on merit regardless of where they came from. Every appointment is a risk, as we have seen with Jose and LVG so I agree with your assertion that the perfect man might be within our ranks as we speak and appointing someone already within the organisation isn't as much of a cultural shock as bringing in someone from outside would be. My worry is the amount of authority and decision making power the club is looking at giving the new man and there is a risk of appointing a flak catcher or a glorified scout. This role should be given to someone along with autonomy to chart the future of the football side of the club, give him the power to set the club on a new course e.g build his own scouting network, a new recruitment team and have a say on the fate of the coach and the playing team. Obviously the major decisions like sacking the manager, selling first team players etc will have to be cleared with the CEO and board. If we are not going to do that then we should stop wasting time and get on with it as it is.

Agreed Imat, I quite like the idea of a football strategy division, have 5-10 year vision for how the club should be ran at all levels but everything geared towards the success of the first XI. From this vision, a group made up of DOF / Tech Director, chief scout, first team coaches and academy director set about identifying players that fit the vision i.e a United midfield should have a mixture of technical ability and tenacity a Fellaini signing for instance should NEVER happen. Our attackers balance width with dropping into the hole and linking with the midfield, therefore a striker with Lukakus poor touch should never be signed etc. You can see with our current patchwork quilt of a squad this type of strategic approach hasn't been happening.

from Daily mail
Manchester United are putting together a transfer committee of three ex-players in a bid to ensure the club moves away from the big-spending wasteful approach of the past.
The idea, not dissimilar to Liverpool's transfer committee, was discussed at Carrington with former stalwart Darren Fletcher present.
The former United midfielder is anticipated to take charge of the group tasked with making sure the club avoid signing expensive flops, according to the Sun.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a vital summer with a massive rebuilding job on his hands and the cost of getting recruitment wrong again will be extremely damaging.
Rio Ferdinand is another name in the frame who has been propositioned about a role on the committee.
Fierce rivals Liverpool have found success with their set-up of Jurgen Klopp working with sporting director Michael Edwards, scouting chief Dave Fallows and goalkeeping coach John Achterberg.
And it appears that United are trying to follow suit having splurged enormous amounts of cash in recent years of instability following Sir Alex Ferguson's reign.
The club may struggle to offload Alexis Sanchez, who earns £375,000-per-week and they have one of the largest wage bills in the Premier League with no Champions League football to boost the coffers again next season.
Academy boss Nicky Butt was also in the meeting on Wednesday and Quinton Fortune is being primed to take up a coaching position.
The club want to sign 'Manchester United type players' and feel involvement of former stars will help identify those that fit the bill.
Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has pledged that there will be money for Solskjaer to spend this summer but only time will tell if the newfangled recruitment strategy pays off.
I actually don't mind this....

What three players have experience dealing with transfers to end up on the committee?? Smacks of jobs for the boys to keep the heat off the board who clearly don’t know what they’re doing. Just hire an experienced DOF you morons. What’s so difficult about it?

What are Manchester United type players exactly? I could fill a phone book with United type players, most of whom are at other clubs after almost a decade of neglect of our club.
