Your reputation when Woodward fucks you over by making the job impossible, then briefing like mad to blame anyone but himself and the owners. This is true. Post-Fergie we have become the wrecker of dreams and reputations. Moyes wasn’t the right fit for us but was a widely regarded as a decent manager. Now? A complete joke. Jose looks wrecked. Van Gaal retired. Ole won’t get near another top job. If I’m Poch or Allegri I’m thinking very carefully of going anywhere near this poison. That's the danger now...the risk/reward calculation...and I don't think it favours us...

I had to dig back a bit to find this thread... Somewhere in the past day or so, people were predicting a DoF story to emerge to basically deflect from the fact that we are a shit team under an incompetent manager... Wait no longer... Man Utd and West Ham look set to do battle off the pitch as they both bid to sign a new Director of Football, according to sportBILD. But it remains to be seen who'll win the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt transfer guru, Fredi Bobic. Bobic is a candidate for both clubs, neither of whom are currently operating with a Director of Football. Both the Hammers and the Red Devils are keen on the 49-year-old who is out of contract with Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer. The former German international has expressed his desire to move on, and the Premier League could be his next port of call. Frankfurt have promised not to stand in the way of Bobic, who has been an influential figure at the club since 2016. He has helped sign and develop the likes of Luka Jovic and Sebastien Haller, both of whom were sold for big transfer fees. The Bundesliga side have enjoyed consistent top-half finishes under Bobic and won the DfB Pokal against the odds in 2018. He is a man in demand, however, and both West Ham and Man United could face competition from other German clubs. Bobic spent two seasons at Hertha Berlin from 2003 to 2005, making his former club the frontunners for his signature. The Hammers have been without a Director of Football since Mario Husillos was sacked along with Manuel Pellegrini in 2019. United, on the other hand, have never had a DoF. Rio Ferdinand and Marcel Brands have been linked with the role in the past.

Who is he??
Manchester United is pleased to announce the promotion of John Murtough to Football Director and Darren Fletcher to Technical Director, two new roles that will further strengthen the club’s football operations.
John will have overall leadership and responsibility for operations and strategy across all football functions, reinforcing the strong foundations already in place. This appointment builds on the work John has already undertaken in recent years, working closely with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the rest of the football staff to create the structures, processes and culture to deliver sustained success on the pitch. This has included successful overhauls of the club’s Academy and recruitment department.
Darren will work closely with John to add technical input and direction into all football and performance areas. He will focus on a co-ordinated and long-term approach to player and squad development, helping maintain the integral link between the Academy and the first team, aligned with Manchester United’s values and culture.
As Football Director, John will work day-to-day with Ole to align recruitment and other strategies and to ensure that the first team has the best-in-class operational support it needs to succeed.
Ole will continue his role in the recruitment process, supported by extensive scouting and data analytics functions that will continue to report to John. Matt Judge will also report to John, with a new title of Director of Football Negotiations.

Who is John Murtough? Like honestly what has he done to deserve this? Feels like a fucking lip service appointment.

TBF, Murtough along with Nicky Butt has remodelled the Academy and implemented the aggressive youth recruitment we've seen last few years. If he can take that success and add to it to first team success then great.
As always though, cheap option...

Who is John Murtough? Like honestly what has he done to deserve this? Feels like a fucking lip service appointment. He's an ex-panel beater who now does independent car bodywork repairs. Great guy - any dings and my motor is straight round to him. He and his son are big United supporters. Even lent him our season tickets a couple of years ago for his son's birthday. Good people.

It’s not a bad appointment but we could’ve just hired one experienced DOF to do all 3 roles. It probably explains why no serious external candidate would take the role knowing that they’re sharing duties with 2 others. Matt Judge as Director of Negotiations is just comical. The real question is what will actually change with this appointment? Transfers would still need board approval and from the ghouls in Florida. It probably means that the same delays and drawn out transfers will remain but with a new target of our hatred.

It reads like that ad executive from The Simpsons who always bangs on about synergy drafted it. And that cunt Matt Judge is still involved. Fuck that.
