Also Beckham now officially has a stake in Salford, which may complicate things. Woodward has a stake in Liverpool but he's allowed to ruin the club ... FTFY...

Give me Fletch over Beckham as technical director or DOF for that matter. I'd say Fletch has his nose to the football grindstone more, Becks probably hasn't watched a fuckin match since he retired to be a full time celeb. Beckham would be better as an ambassador and if turning on the charm for a new potential signing maybe bump into him in the corridors of Old Trafford.

I'm prepared to bet all of my testicles that Becks has been to plenty of games since he retired.

Well he's watched at least a few as he's been at United and Arsenal games.

Too much gambling Ole isn't a learning on the job manager, he's won more trophies than Poch actually. He's in his dream job, I'm not worried about him at all tbh, actually looking forward to seeing him wield the axe this summer and go after new talent. Huge transfer window for him and the club to be fair, I'll feel a lot better if he has support in the transfer market from the right management structure.

And you think the right management structure behind him is someone who has never done the job before? I want Ole to succeed. But his chances are slim with Woodward and slimmer again with a former player with zero experience in roles above him. The deck will be stacked against him even more.

The modern set up on technical director side is for several roles, City have 3 apparently. I have no quams about Fletch being one of them, and among the other 2 have an experienced guy by all means. What I want to avoid though is adopting some other clubs culture, that's why ex United in some of these roles is crucial. Its not mentioned much now but when we gave LVG the manager job he was given free reign to hire, fire and revamp the youth teams. He was poor on all fronts and it was a mistake to entrust him with that imo. His methods were outdated and he wasn't from the Cruyff / Michels school of Ajax either, he was the pragmatic version. Later came to light that his great Ajax team of the mid 90's succeeded by ignoring his tactics lol. Long winded way of saying that United club culture has to be a consideration in recruiting these roles.

But our first port of call shouldnt be hire Darren Fletcher. It should be decide what we want structure wise and get the best man for the job. Then pad out the rest of the staff with former players or what not.

The club have decided what they want structure wise - Woody wants to cede as little power as possible whilst also be seen to be doing something to fix the problem. Pretty much everyone the club has approached has turned them down because its essentially a DoF-lite job.

Imagine asking an actual Director of Football to play second fiddle to a number-cruncher.
