If there’s one positive, at least there’s no more Chelsea fans piping up claiming Chilwell is better than Shaw. Best left back in the world bar fucking none.

That's the last we'll hear from fans of convenience for another 12 months anyway. Amount of whoppers who don't watch a game until they jump on the England bandwagon every couple of summers have been as infuriating as ever the last few weeks. Know this is the unpopular opinion, but as long as they don’t get in the way, I don’t mind the fair weather fans. Fuck it, let them have fun. I know I’m a bigger fan, it means more to me, but the more the merrier right? Hopefully a few realise how great football really is and become bigger fans. I'd tolerate them much more if they didn't believe their football opinions carry genuine merit when talking to people who live and breathe football 12 months a year, every year.

In 6 months time ask them to name the starting 11 for the final and they won't have a clue. 6 months ago ask them to name England's captain and they'd have probably said David Beckham or Wayne Rooney (because those are the only 2 players they've heard of). Stop pretending you like something you have absolutely no interest in and care nothing about just because it's popular and you want to fit in. This applies in 99% of cases to females. "What? Men are all watching something?? I must watch it too! Look at me, I'm one of the boys! Who the fuck is Kyle Walker?" I remember back in 2003 when England won the rugby world cup everyone pretending to be rugby fans for one summer. Fuck that, I have no interest in rugby in the slightest. When asked about the final I told the truth, I watched Soccer AM instead.

Alan Shearer knows a thing or two about scoring penalties and agreed it was v unfair on Rashers and Sancho. "It's a big ask to put two players on with a few minutes to go and ask them to take penalties. It's big pressure when they've not kicked a ball. It's a big ask. Mentally you have to get yourself right. You've not kicked a ball for a few hours." Barely played them the entire tournament, sticks them in the first five penalty takers in the final against Donnarumma. Should be sacked for that alone.

Southgate was completely out thought tonight. England were on top in the first half, but as soon as Italy changed it he had no answer at all.
How many goals/assists on the bench between Rashford, Grealish and Sancho this season? Didn’t trust them to play more than a handful of minutes tonight. Two of those players will likely move for a combined £160m this summer but they can’t get on over a struggling out of position Mount.
I feel bad for Saka. That pressure on young shoulders. But that change was garbage. Huge element of negativity behind it. He had an awful game, he’ll have known he had an awful game, and then he takes the fifth penalty.
End of the day, Italy would kill for some of those England attacking players. Most other nations would. They’re all sat on the bench.

Most women I know who've enjoyed the tournament and don't normally follow football, have followed it in the knowledge that their understanding of what is happening is that we have to get the ball in the net. Men will absolutely try and blag it and sound as knowledgeable.

Southgate's post-match comments were very Ole-esque. This one below absolutely killed me which he used to justify Saka taking the last penalty. "I decided on the penalty takers based on what they have done in training"
There is a world of difference between taking a penalty in training and in a big game watched by hundreds of millions where scoring can be the difference between glory and misery. No doubt Saka bangs them in on the training ground but he's just a kid and it's a massive ask of him.
And while usually I'd expect Rashford and Sancho to score, Southgate has spent all tournament doing a Donny on them limiting them to bit part roles which must have affected their confidence and made them doubt themselves.
But really he got exactly what he deserved with his overly cautious approach eventually backfiring.

Men will absolutely try and blag it and sound as knowledgeable. Yeah I would agree, saying 99% were women was probably pretty harsh We all know blokes like that, try to sound off like they know more about football than Fergie and Clough combined. Then talk a load of complete tosh.

The Ole to Southgate comparisons are hard to ignore. A lot of the same game management mistake deficiencies. No IPad though

Also, between Phillips and Rice, Phillips had the better tournament didn’t he?

He really is Gareth Solskjaergate isn't he? Even his subs are the same. Shite, and pointless. Italy, just like Villareal, made sensible changes throughout. England, just like United, made pointless and wasteful subs. Stones and Sterling should hang their heads in shame, the experience they both have and they let a teenager go up before them. Bottling twats. As a little nothing aside, how good was Maguire's pen? Fair play for that, unsaveable. 2 shots on target in 120 minutes. Reluctance to make subs. Gambled on pens. Both lost. Like two peas in a pod. Like the season never ended.

Am I the only one surprised by how long mount stayed on the pitch considering he how he just wasn’t offering anything? When out in perspective England had the easiest route to the finals and I just hope the fact they lost when they played a proper proper team doesn’t knock their confidence.
Massive missed opportunity, easy for me to say but I really would have changed systems at half time as it was nailed on Italy would do something different.

End of the day, Italy would kill for some of those England attacking players. Most other nations would. They’re all sat on the bench. I think Southgate deserves alot of credit for how he's done with England after the mess he inherited. He knew youth was the way forward and weeded out the hanger ons. In my opinion he's the most competent manager they have had in years, I just think he's too conservative in big moments. He just didn't react to the situation last night, he made one sub in the 2nd half, knowing that Italy were totally dominant and England were struggling to get out of there own half. You can't just sit there and hope it works out. Sometimes you have to gamble and go out on your shield and that's what Manchini did. He realised Kane was a big problem and changed the tactics to snuff him out. The game was calling out for a Grealish or Sancho coming on to ask questions of there midfield. For that reason they deserved to lose on penalties because they were playing for them by full time. I think overall, Italy deserved to win the tournament, they had the harder draw and have been the best team throughout. There's alot of good players in that England team especially up front and there defensive players are of a very high quality. They only conceeded 2 goals all tournament. The problem is central midfield and the lack of a playmaker or someone who can play a forward pass (sound familiar?). I'm not sure if there is someone who can play that role but I know Mount can't do that job at all.
