So it's now come out that China had a 10x year on year rise in 'flu' cases in December... I wonder if they will ever admit how long this has been in circulation for ? My friend was hospitalised over Xmas in the South of France for 10 days with 'mystery' respiratory problems. We socialise often,in & out of each others houses almost daily. My 8 year old daughter the 3rd week of Jan was hospitalised with 'mystery' respiratory problems for 4 days. 10 days later i was was bed ridden with flu like issues, worst I've ever felt in my life. Friend had a private antibody test last week which was positive.

My mum said when all this kicked off that she reckoned he had it. Every symptom was text book Corona virus. High temp, cough, fatigue, sore throat. It wasn’t your typical bad cold. It took him months to finally shift it. This has been picked up in the sewage system right back to last October in Italy and apparently Harvard picked up an increased amount of activity around the hospitals in Wuhan around late summer/autumn last year via satellite systems.

Was planning on heading to Boston in September to see some family and watch the patriots. Not looking like that will happen given the situation in the US. Looking like they have lost control of it.

Yeah the US is in a bad way. We were planning to go to Miami next summer but even that looks unlikely at present.

Yeah, me too. My old man is 70 in Nov. Looks like I won't be heading over for that. I usually go into Boston.

We planned to go about 20 years ago but ended up going to San Francisco because the hotel I wanted to stay in wasn’t available for the length of time we wanted.

Kinda reminds me of Manchester, very different to New York. Definitely recommend it. You can head out to Salem from there, which is a really interesting place.

Salem is eerie but cool. I've always preferred Chicago to Boston and NY though.

I’d love to just spend a fortune and work my way through visiting a few US states including North Carolina where my uncle has lived for over 40 years.

Well I got my official letter from UK Department of Communities ,Housing and Local Government earlier this week regarding my shielding, which began in early March. After the initial doom-laden preamble, they’re telling me that from 6th July I can see “up to six people outside, whilst main STRICT social distancing” so at least I can see the kids and granddaughter “live” instead of on Skype, although that has been a blessing! With regards to work, I should ideally be working from home, but can return from 1st August provided my employers (UK Civil Service) can guarantee a “Covid-Safe” working environment, absolutely no chance of them doing that ,given the number of people that work there. The overarching message in the letter was “we’d prefer you to stay at home and wait for further government advice” The “working from home” option is still no closer to happening, as the department cannot provide the IT that I need to allow me to do this-I need a Surface Pro 7 with a wireless dongle. I could buy same from Amazon for delivery on Saturday, and, although it would need configuring to accept our OS ,that wouldn’t be an issue. So here I sit!

10 million now infected with this virus and over 500,000 killed. I know it’s not like the Spanish flu after WWI ,but it chills my blood!

Here’s hoping that the UK Government get absolutely clattered when the (inevitable) public enquiry has concluded. Just watched BBC Panorama in UK with regards to testing, which has been appalling, ,badly thought out and under resourced with healthcare workers both in hospitals and care homes being amongst the last to have (previously) been tested for the virus. There are now private testing centres all over the UK that do not contain doctors to oversee procedures -as in Germany- with many of the testers receiving the bare minimum of training with little by way of PPE being worn-again as in Germany-. The Director General of The World Health Organisation said “test, test, test” from early March, and although they’ve been accused of minimising China’s involvement,he was spot on. Germany has a larger population than UK, and only a fifth of our confirmed community infections, and death rates. Regrettably all the government seemed to be bothered about was the “100,00 tests per day” target, instead of focusing in the aforementioned health care worker, many of whom were asymptomatic and thus unwittingly spread the virus. It’s an absolute bloody scandal

Well... Seems like we're slowly but surely heading towards wave 2. Switzerland opened up its clubs and bars a while ago under rules and guidelines obviously. My wife works in one of the most famous and visited bars in Zurich. The bar has its own small cinema (which is still closed) and a huge public park as part of it where people usually sit and drink, play petanque and just chill when the weather is nice. They had to put up fences for the opening, Plexiglas at the bar (it's a fairly small bar but massively visited due to the public park and its history), only one customer is allowed inside at a time, others have to wait outside in a line with the necessary distancing.
Since the reopening I visited the place a few times and it's almost impossible it seems for people to keep to the rules. Last night I went there, was at the bar ordering a drink and saying hello to my girl and the other friends who also work there. Some random guy just entered and stood right next to me. I got really pissed and threatened to punch his face if he is not immediately going outside like everyone else, lad didn't understand the problem but still left because he was just scared of me. My girl and the others told me it's a clusterfuck, having to tell people non stop to wait outside and keep the distance. There are info papers everywhere, yellow fat lines on the ground... You can't miss all the warnings but people are fucking morons. And the ones getting problems will be the bar of course in case a control comes in, because of all the idiots not giving a single shit.
Yesterday they announced that from Monday on everyone in Switzerland will have to, not gonna be an option, wear masks in public transport. And it looks like this weekend or possibly next one will be the last one bars and clubs will be allowed to stay open. Nothing on clubs and bars officially as of yet but most people I know are convinced they will be forced to close again and Switzerland might slowly go back into lockdown.
Seriously... People are so fucking dumb. Instead of appreciating that most places were allowed to open up again and giving their best to behave properly , the masses just fuck it up for everyone from private people to small business owners and workers like the people I know from my girls bar. Makes me furious
