We were never seriously linked with Van Djik. That seems to have stemmed from an anecdote by one of his former teammates. The real issue with the Lindelof purchase was how on earth you buy him when Dias was better in every single aspect of the game. I know they didn’t play at the same time but surely our scouts would have had proper info on him. Its interesting nobody seems to blame Jose for lindelof. Unlike maguire and Ole. It's interesting that Lindelof is well-known not have been Jose's first choice and did not cost a world record fee and was not made undroppable captain after five minutes at the club.

Don't need him though, do we Ed? This isn’t happening. Last season was the perfect opportunity.
He's cheaper or something this year - not that I expect us to pay the 85mil (is it??)

Who else was Jose's first option ? He was the one who pushed for lindelof , this is what he said on the transfer www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-united-transfer-victor-lindelof-13598328But, dismissing doubts about the Swede, Mourinho has revealed that he knew him inside out before meeting him. "Lindelof was the only one that I didn’t work with [before]," he told the Sunday Times . "But in Portugal I control. I control inside information. "I know the qualities of the people, I know many things about social life, about private life, I know because even without working for that, the informations are arriving."

As I recall - happy to be corrected on the timelines - but under Jose Lindelof had a period where he actually looked pretty good. He’s declined greatly whilst Ole has been in charge, so Ole deserves his share of the blame for that - a share that grows massively when you see his continued insistence that that decline has not occurred.

So when Ole spouts his happy-go-lucky pro-Glazer bollocks it's because he's lying to play the game, but everything Jose said is his honest opinion.

There's not a single player who I can point out to definitely and say that he's improved under this manager. Not one. Edit : I think Shaw can be said to have improved, on second thought.

Might have something to do with the threat of Telles though.

Martial had his highest scoring season last season - I really hoped Ole had him turning a corner. Now Martial looks like Charles Barkley after the Space Jam aliens got to him.

Scott , Fred , Shaw , Rashford , Greenwood * (may not be the improved category , but lets be honest he wouldnt have got a chance here over lukakku)

Scott and Fred are the most obvious examples I think. Oddly, despite the goals drying up, Mason looks a better all round player lately. I feel if he gets one he’ll go on a run.

It's actually quite the opposite he actually claims a defensive improvement this season.

I remember some talk at the time that Zlatan had thrown some weight behind the Lindelof signing so to speak and vouched for his ability. If that’s true and that had anything to do with us signing him then we’re dafter than I thought.

IIRC exactly this happened to Rashford in his second season as well, funnily enough. At this stage it's more important that his all-round play improves anyway.

Serious question.
Who comes in when Pogba leaves?
Like or it not we are feeling his absence from the team so if he leaves we are undoubtedly much weaker as a squad. Who is available right now that would want to play for us and would improve us?
DVB is not going to be given a fair chance under Ole so let's leave him out.
