We’re apparently reluctant to meet the release clause for Kounde, which is £68 million. Fuck off Ed and Joel. It's a fair amount of money but honestly, just pay it. Stop fannying on to try and save a few million. You can't haggle and play hard ball when desperate, and everyone and their dog knows we're desperate for a quality centre back. Think back to 2002 as a for example. Leeds were financially fucked, big time. We could have acted like nobs and tried to low ball them on Rio, but instead just paid what they asked. 10 years later he still looked a complete steal. You know today we'd offer half that amount and he would end up at City or Chelsea, or abroad. If this kid is worth it then the money doesn't matter long term. Mate, they refused to pay 45 million Euros for Upamecano. Struggle to see how they'll spend that much on Kounde. |

I’m pretty certain that we won’t be signing a marquee CB this summer like Kounde or Konate. The excuses are already being put out there by Ole and by that puppet Ashton. Its a shame that we sold Smalling. Ole’s obsession with building up from the back with CBs who are good on the ball, made him overlook the most important skill needed for a CB, which is actually to defend.

Yup we are already lining up a cheaper alternative in Milenkovic who would be about half the price. Seems like history is repeating. Reminds me of when we went for Lindelof over Van Dijk.

I’m not even sure that at the time Van Dijk was that much more expensive than Lindelof, I think in that case it was simply another awesome display of how good we are at signing the wrong players. |

We were never seriously linked with Van Djik. That seems to have stemmed from an anecdote by one of his former teammates. The real issue with the Lindelof purchase was how on earth you buy him when Dias was better in every single aspect of the game. I know they didn’t play at the same time but surely our scouts would have had proper info on him. |

First with Lindelof and then even worse when we went for Maguire instead of Dias. The first one a good scouting network should have known better (and possibly did - we know from testimonials that Ed and co regularly ignore reports); the second one many people on this forum were calling for, let alone professional scouts. Totally unforgiveable. |
