This is still pinch yourself territory. He’s a magnificent CB.

Can't recall us signing a player in his prime like he is,since Veron probably. Thing with Veron was we didn’t know where to put him given how strong our midfield was back then. We REALLY need this guy and we know where he’s going to sit. Happy days.

Had a sneak over on RAWK and saw one guy doing mental gymnastics calculating what he would cost the club over four years. Another guy saying he'd take Konate over Varane any day of the week etc.
They're shook 🤣.

So much bitterness on the RAWK and absolute nonsense as usual on the bluemoon. One prick on the RAWK thought Varane was no better than Lovren, FFS LOL

Some people get it:
Ex-Everton midfielder Don Hutchinson told BBC Radio Live's Football Daily: "He is an absolute bargain. He is in his prime, is a multiple league winner, multiple Champions League winner, and is coming in as a finished article and one of the quickest centre-backs out there.
"You imagine his partnership with Harry Maguire would be very good. We have questioned the signings for quite a few years at Manchester United, but this one alongside Sancho shows where they are heading. This is a brilliant signing."
Former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison added: "Sancho is an exciting signing, but Varane is a hell of a signing. He is a Rolls Royce. Lindelof did well but he doesn't have the pace to cover Maguire. "

I really wish we had signed Ramos to partner him as well.

I really wish we had signed Ramos to partner him as well. It would have been nice to have him for the ten or so games he wasn’t suspended 🤣

From ESPN:
‘When Varane made it clear to the Spanish giants he would not sign a new deal, and the decision was made to cash in this summer rather than risk losing him for free in 12 months, they tried to bring Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea to the negotiating table, but sources have told ESPN he was only interested in talking to United. Woodward continued negotiations with Real Madrid during a family holiday, while new football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher -- both appointed in March -- spoke to Varane to sell him the move to Old Trafford. Sources have told ESPN that Varane was particularly swayed by Fletcher, and a base fee of €39.8m (£34m) plus add-ons represents a good deal for a 28-year-old at the peak of his career.’
