Yeah, couldn’t give a fuck about this. They’re attempting to give him a heroic send off on social media, which is a real sign of where we’re at. Good player obviously in his day. Can barely get through a game now, runs like he’s unable to bend his knees. I wouldn’t put him in the bracket of those who have come in and not been bothered. I don’t think he’s like that. But at the same time he’s given us next to nowt over two or three years, whatever it is. Not his fault as such, but I’m not saying thank you for that. There was immense optimism when he came in, just look at the start of the thread. However, it’s another lesson really that if Madrid are happy to sell, all is probably not as it seems. They’re not in the habit of selling their best players. I stand by this and don’t think it’s unfair at all. Obviously a good player. Obviously barely ever fit.

It is the correct decision to move him.
But ridiculous to say he doesn't deserve any appreciation for his contributions over the last few years.
Even if he only managed 20-25 games a season for us, that meant 20-25 games a season with Maguire or Lindelof on the bench and the difference in quality was like light and day. Memories are short and people forget how bad Maguire and Lindelof used to be. He hardly puts a foot wrong when he plays, brought class and composure to our defence, and formed a great partnership with Martinez.
Was he playing at the same level as he was every game at Real Madrid? No of course not. But there were at least a dozen games when he rolled back the years and hit those levels and yesterday was one of them.

A season in England has about 40-50 games all competitions included. What are we to be thankful for exactly? For playing 1/3rd of the games he should have? For a player on gargantuan wages who should be starting week in week out but can't stay fit? He was part of the 7-0 to the scouse so what in God's honest name are you on about he hardly puts a foot wrong when he plays? He has been here through 3 terrible years apart from 2 cup wins. We criticise the manager week in week out but apparently we're supposed to be thankful for this guy. Do me a favor.

Bruno was also on the pitch during that 7-0 game. I don't think it can be argued that he's been one of our better players when fit over the last few years and played his part in what success we were able to achieve under Erik.
Does he deserve a contract extension or a new contract? No because of age, fitness and crazy wages. But I just think its wrong to say "Good riddance. Thanks for nothing" when he's been nothing but professional when fit and showed his class. And if we are going to start hating on players who can only manage 20-25 games a season there is a long long list.

Its hard to miss someone who barely played. I do also agree that players who manage 20-25 games a season deserve to have their contracts reassessed, or continue their football elsewhere.

He's a fantastic footballer, over his whole career. Never pulled up any trees for us, but I've enjoyed watching him at times. Jonny Evans hasn't been any worse than him.

So everyone complaining about his injury record happy to rely on Shaw’s fitness then ? 🧐

Not going to blame someone for getting injured, especially someone like Varane who seems like the sort to be highly professional and do all the right things, not like he's out on the piss most nights and eating kebabs. If his body lets him down then it's just one of those things.
So not slagging him off, but at the same time don't know why we'd be expected to praise and thank him. He's been paid enormous sums of money to barely play, and when he has played he's generally done quite well. That's it. Not exactly Rio, Vidic or Stam levels of performances. Just quite well. We were expecting one of the stand out centre backs in the world, he's never hit that level here.
