Just like Casemiro, Ronaldo, Eriksen and Cavani we only got one good season out of him (well half a season in Eriksen's case). Hopefully SJR will put a stop to buying players past their prime.
A really good team with a really good manager can probably accommodate a few golden oldies and extend their lifespan. But that isn't us.

Yeah, couldn’t give a fuck about this. They’re attempting to give him a heroic send off on social media, which is a real sign of where we’re at.
Good player obviously in his day. Can barely get through a game now, runs like he’s unable to bend his knees.
I wouldn’t put him in the bracket of those who have come in and not been bothered. I don’t think he’s like that. But at the same time he’s given us next to nowt over two or three years, whatever it is. Not his fault as such, but I’m not saying thank you for that.
There was immense optimism when he came in, just look at the start of the thread. However, it’s another lesson really that if Madrid are happy to sell, all is probably not as it seems. They’re not in the habit of selling their best players.

Little harsh as he was very good for us last season. But yeah Real Madrid would have been well aware of his fitness issues and that is why they sold him to us.
But it hasn't helped having Erik as manager. His tactics make Varane and Casemiro and Eriksen look as though they are in their late 30s not their early 30s. And Varane is far from the only player we have who's struggled with injuries under Erik.

We didn't learn from Di Maria so we decided to go all in on 2 more of their rejects while they solidified their next decade or so.
Par for the course.

The thread title, in hindsight, should be - "Raphaël Varane- Utd player. Seriously??"

Quality player, he has achieved his dreams in football. He goes with fond memories and wish he won more with us. The injuries though are a real shame

Anyone willing to at sorry for the last few posts? No. Why should anyone apologise? He’s had a good game today but there’s no use considering the man can’t stay fit. Lmao it’s fucking amazing what one game and trophy does to this place.

He’s easily one of the best footballers I’ve ever seen in a United shirt. Man showed his class today. Anyone that replaces his us RUNGS below.

Rolled back the years as they say today. Marshalled the defence superbly well and was a commanding presence in the air when our successful efforts to stifle City in midfield forced them to go wide and ping crosses into the box.
If he hadn't been fit to play I don't think we'd have pulled it off today. People rave about Martinez and he's also excellent but Martinez is never as good as when he's alongside Varane in defence.
I can understand INEOS taking the commercial decision that it doesn't make sense to keep him when he can only manage 20-25 games a season and is on high wages and is 31 years old.
But I'll never regret us signing him. We've had precious few world class players turn out for us in the post-Fergie era and he's been one of them.

I don’t think his quality is in question, it’s his fitness. Benching him is not an option because he wants to play when fit but then you need your CB’s to be fit for at least 95% of the season. I don’t know if there was talk of reduced wages because he is on a very pretty penny. I would hope that was explored because if you could keep him for a year with option for another on wages of about £125,000 - £150,000 I’d say he is worth it especially if you get in a youngster who will fully takeover from him in that time. Wish him the best.

Lmao it’s fucking amazing what one game and trophy does to this place. redcafe is the same. The vast majority wanted varane, case and ETH gone at the end of the season but one FA Cup later(in which we only really beat 2 decent teams by playing on the counter)loads are now having second thoughts. Varane said he was leaving a couple of weeks ago and nobody batted an eyelid because it was the correct decision. if you stand still you go backwards.
