Ole in the pre-match presser gave his reasoning for playing Fred and Matic in central midfield. So I went with them two" In other words he felt he couldn't drop Fred because he played in a team that won 5-1 against Leeds even though that result was all about Scotty, Pogba, Bruno and Greenwood and he chose to replace Scotty with Matic because Matic had a few good pre-season games against Championship teams and a pretty pathetic Everton side. And we also know that if Lingard hadn't got COVID he would have started the first two games based on his pre-season form. It is quite sad really. He is trying to be logical and make the right decisions. But he still gets it wrong. If he is picking on form then how are Martial, wan-Bissaka, and Maguire still playing every week? |

Sancho and Varane both absolutely have to start. There are no more excuses for 'bedding them in' at this stage.

Line up is OK to be fair, minus Dan James with Donny again on the bench, which is still so bizarre. At least Sancho and Varane start.

Sancho and Varane start. No defensive double pivot. Pogba in the two concerns me as it's rarely worked out before but it's streets ahead of Matic being there. Overall I'll take that for sure, even if James is probably going to be rubbish and lower his own price. Cavani on the bench is also good to see, we might need him yet.
