We are well past the "Let's try to see the positives and enjoy it when we occasional scrape a win" stage. That was fine during the transition stage. But that excuse doesn't fly any more. We have a strong squad that is more than capable of challenging for trophies. Even the midfield thing is overblown. Liverpool won everything with a fairly pedestrian midfield. A good coach could find a workaround. SAF won the league with Giggs and O'Shea. So Pogba and Scotty could probably do a job for us. But McFred is a nightmare especially as Fred seems to have completely gone to pieces. And really while we may be close to the top of the table if you look under the surface you'll see we struggled against Southampton, Wolves and West Ham and that 4-1 result against Newcastle flattered us. The games are going to get a lot harder as the season goes on and Chelsea look absolutely fucking ruthless and I cannot see them dropping many points so we cannot afford many slips. 2nd.

Good win on paper, and could have been more comprehensive if Atkinsons wasn't a complete and utter twat. Honestly, why he's never been investigated for his decisions against United is mystifying. Every time he is the ref he makes non stop ludicrous decisions that just always coincidently happen to favour the other team.
Anyway, why we do always make it so much harder than it needs to be? As just mentioned before, Liverpool absolutely blew everyone away with Wijnaldum and Henderson in midfield. Neither of those are world beaters so how come they could up their game and our lot just get over-ran time and time again?
Always good to celebrate a win but papering over a lot of cracks at the moment.

Re yesterday’s game, a win is certainly not a win in this case. The team can keep being streaky and getting away with it. If it wasn’t for the ridiculous Moyseh’s ‘Special Teams’ play ,we would’ve drawn, and with all that attacking talent that shouldn’t have been an issue.

It should feel good to win a game like that in the manner that we did, but it honestly doesn't. We have a unbelievably easy start to the season but we're barely making it past these teams.

I am bit shocked at the criticism being directed at Ole yesterday. We had the most shots on target in the first half by any team all season. We were much more composed and controlled with McT back. The score line flattered West Ham, we should’ve have had 4 or 5 goals if it wasn’t for some big Fabianski saves and disastrous VAR/refereeing. Ole has his limitations and frustrating moments but he did nothing wrong yesterday.

To me its now clear- Scott is absolutely vital to us, at least up to Jan. I hope Carrick and Matic are teaching him all they can and mould him into a deep lying midfielder. Keane was quite swashbuckling at Forest and changed his game. We need Scott to do the same.

Just in regards to Ole, i think the concern is that after all this time the same mistakes are being made. You take out Ronaldo and already some vital goals will be missed whereby we lose or draw.
Maybe Mason the way he started could have replaced those goals, maybe but even so the way we play with the attacking talent we have is just nowhere near where it should be. Midfield certainly is a key area, it's the engine and we know for any car to move the engine has to function, ours simply does not.
The people in charge need to be on the phone now agreeing January sales to fund some midfield purchases. For the cost of Rice you get Bissouma and neves with 30 million change, I hope they actually think rather than buy a shiny English toy.

Well that was a very underwhelming performance...
It's already been picked apart here by everyone so nothing to add really...
But can someone please explain to me the point of Fred?
And why Donny can't get a game ahead of him? Fred was quite simply abysmal yesterday and I refuse to believe that Donny would do worse...

Fred has been so abysmal this season so far, i mean shockingly bad, he is back to where he started. It's so not right that ole doesn't stick donny there, he would offer more all round, infact if he doesn't like him stick matic with scott. The fred thing is the same as AWB, playing poorly but the competition are not being given a fair chance to stake their claim.

We outplayed them yesterday. Their goal was a fluke. We should have had 3 or 4. The score flattered them. Ole's subs worked out; per the chart above, they tend to do that. Nice win and one that seems like it could have a nice bonding effect among the players. The way Bruno and Ronaldo reacted to Jesse's goal was great to see.

Still can't get my head around the fact the first Ronaldo penalty at least wasn't reviewed. These officials need to start being held accountable, they get protected far too much.
This campaign for respecting officials I agree with however when they make clear and obvious mistakes by not using the tools given to them then the respect goes out the window. It's unforgiveable.
Whats worse is had Ole openly criticised Atkinson for it he'd be the one to get the shit. Luckily the fuck up didn't cost us 2 points.

I’d like to see a campaign based around respecting the officials less. I want to see us surrounding referees and hounding fuck out of them when they make poor decisions.

Not sure what that stats is on about. Doesn't say much about The Athletic if they get such a basic and easily checked stat very wrong. Goals by subs in the league last season. Van De Beek vs Crystal Palace. 2-0 down at the time of sub, lost 3-1. Cavani vs Everton. 2-1 up at time of sub, won 3-1 Cavani (2) vs Southampton. 2-0 down at time of sub, won 3-2 Rashford vs West Ham. 1-0 down at time of sub, won 3-1 Martial (2) vs Southampton. 4-0 up at time of sub, won 9-0 James vs Southampton. 4-0 up at time of sub, won 9-0 Greenwood vs Spurs. 1-1 at time of sub, won 3-1 Cavani vs Burnley. 0-0 at time of sub, won 3-1 Cavani vs Aston Villa. 2-1 up at time of sub, won 3-1 So, that's 12 goals by subs, not 8. And The Athletic expect people to pay for their services?

Making mistakes is one thing, I can accept that they are made, they're human. What I can't accept is when they're made and there is a specific tool there to help them clarify whether those mistakes are correct or not then refusing to use it. I find it unacceptable that footage is selectively not being reviewed when it absolutely should be. But once again they will get the backing from the powers that be instead of being punished for not doing their job properly.
