It was not a good enough performance , but having said that we were missing 3 of our preferred back 4 and Ole's changes did help to win the match. I'm afraid the state of our defense is not a good enough excuse for looking like a pub team for the first hour, during which Alberto Moreno had our only real attempt on goal

I think we know what we are gonna get under Ole. Quite a lot of turgid performances where we rely on individual brilliance to bail us out. And occasionally when everything clicks we'll run riot like the way we did against Leeds and people will get unduly excited. But the tests are starting to get tougher and eventually we won't be able to scrape wins the way we did against West Ham (in the league) and Villareal last night and drop points and fall behind.
The win tonight was MASSIVE for Ole. If we'd lost then it would be a massive struggle to get the 10 points usually required to qualify from our remaining four games. And getting knocked out at the group stage would have definitely resulted in some heat on Ole.
Oh and Ole's quote says it all:
"When you have Cristiano you always have a chance"
I think that will be the tagline for our season. And in much the same way as Bruno has kept Ole in the job until now. Ronaldo will do the same.

Dalot had a mare. Wan Bissaka may be shit going forward but if the Villarreal kid had Dalot in knots what would the top tier wingers do to him? Wan Bissaka is absolutely first choice. Agree with the first part, not sure about the last part until Dalot gets a fair run of games. This is another issue i take with Ole, he just doesn't give people a fair run when someone else is out of form. Fred has been woeful, one game out and then bring him him in is not the way, the same for AWB. You give the replacement at least 5 games, unless they are absolutely terrible.

So, that was a performance that we have come to expect these days...
We were absolute shit for the majority of the game...as has been said, a bunch of individuals who need to be made into a team...
If that can be done then we would be formidable...
Dalot was terrible in the first half...he was roasted time after time and improved marginally in the second half...
For once, Ole's substitutions made a difference but he was almost too late...why did it take so long to actually get them on the pitch??
However, once again rescued by two moments of brilliance...
If we had lost 6-2 last night, nobody could have argued...
We have a serious run of games coming up and I have no confidence that we will come through them with any real reward...and Ole should then be on his bike...

It's crazy how in such little time Varane has come in and said term needs to believe in itself, yesterday they didn't get going until the goal from Telles (play him on the weekend and do not risk Shaw).
And has been said DDG has been fantastic, Ron may have scored the winner but you gotta be in it to win it and DDG certainly kept us in with a shout.
What a competent manager would do with the array of attackers we have, only God knows

Tuchel lost to the lowly Juve This stuff only works with managers who haven’t actually won things.

Atalanta don't look bad either, this group will be decided on the final match day.

Rio Ferdinand: “He [Cristiano Ronaldo] text me tonight saying ‘I didn’t’ play well but I knew I’d score.’ That’s the belief that he has. The other players are feeding off it. It’s a great place to be.” Rio is never done plugging his friendship with Ronaldo. Who cares

so even if we do make it out of the group, does anyone believe we'll go further than the last 16 the way we're playing??

We were pretty poor last night, but I suppose we have to take into account three of the first choice back four being missing. That’s not necessarily an excuse for shit defending, but the unit itself would’ve been untested.
Thought Dalot was awful. I’ll not write him off, but I have to say I’ve never seen anything in him to suggest he’s going to be a good player. AWB, nine times out of ten, will tackle and win the ball. As bad as he is going forward, that’s still an attribute. Dalot can’t defend, has no pace and also contributes nothing going forward beyond that time he did a step over against PSG. I don’t see it personally. That’s not to say AWB is the answer, he’s also been shite this season, but you can see why we were pursuing Trippier in the summer.
Midfield still a problem area. Any time Pogba has played in the centre this season, we’ve been wide open. Either he can’t play in there or we need to buy someone who will enable him to be able to play in there. He’s now played in a two alongside Fred, Scott and Matic this season and none of those variations have worked.

Pogba needs real quality alongside him to play centrally, his game isn't complete enough to do defensive duties and be creative on the ball. We just don't have a proper central midfield player and against the best teams, we will get done in that area. We all said this when the window shut. I think Scotty has the energy but he was rarely in the right position last night. He's not gonna learn much from Pogba about playing centrally. I lost count the amount of times one straight ball between both of them opened us up. If that's happening with two holding players, then what's the point?

The little van de Beek look-a-like kid in awe reminds me what football is really about.
