Enjoyed that last night but RR has his work cut out organising that rabble into a well drilled unit. Both Fred and mcsauce are just not good enough to be in a top side bar maybe a bench backup but that should only be one of them and the other needs moving on. Work starts today. Fred is the better of the two. Academy only keeps McTominay in surely ? It's a real mess that needs sorting,McFred are fucking awlful neither player is anywhere near being good enough for a side that wants to win titles.

Fred's really one of the most annoying players we've had in recent memory. So much to like about him, can't fault his attitude, gives his all and works his socks off. But so much to bloody dislike too! If only you could combine Fred's attitude with Pogba's ability. Fred sort of encapsulates this current Utd for me. Capable of moments of brilliance and dreadfulness in the space of a few minutes. Literally no idea what he’s coming out with next. With some proper coaching, he could/should be ideal for this more energetic, proper pressing approach. His energy levels are brilliant, he just has to keep it simple and cut out the shite he does far too often.

We should be setting up in a 4-3-3 in my opinion, One of Matic or Scott sitting in the middle with Bruno and Donny either side allowed to go box to box, a front 3 off Sancho, Ronaldo and whomever on the left, Rashy really not doing it at the moment. More balance in the middle of the park will allow us to transition play better. at the moment there are 2 options in the middle, scott and Fred who pass sideways and back and are easily pressed, another option in midfield is needed, would also stop the need for longer passes in to the forward players who often lose it with their back to goal and a defender right up there arse, get the forward players turning and running forward and in behind, far too often they all come deep for the ball and the opposition can easily step up and squeeze the play.

In an odd way, if you had a version of Carrick, who could control play and spray passes around, you could get away with Fred’s crap passing and just let him press and tackle, which he does brilliantly in fairness. On this, I watched a Carrick video last night and it’s incredible to me that we didn’t properly try to replace him, bar Kroos. We’ve needed a new version since 2014 yet none of the mids we bought have come close. Matic you could argue I suppose but he was on the wane. Even last night the Arsenal CMs were far more polished in possession. It’s bordering on scandalous that this hasn’t been fixed. It’s why we never have control of matches.

Tielemens ideal signing. its time for him to make the next step in his career.

I've closely the pair of them and neither have the passing range to open up teams or offer anywhere near enough of a goal threat. On top of that both are bypassed far too easily defensive wise(mcsauce the worst of the 2). As you say a version of carrick now would just up this team 1 level overnight as it would improve both rashford and sancho(or greenwood) as they would have far more space to open up teams when going forward.

Just watched the entire game. As I was otherwise engaged, last night. If there was a game that perfectly sums up Fred. It was this.

Re Fred: Talk about a Curate’s Egg of a performance, he’s frustratingly brilliant, and then bloody awful, often within minutes in a game. If Rangick can get rid of the latter he’d be worth making manager for as long as he wants! One thing about Fred, he never drops his head, reminds me a little of Ando in that respect.

Something I’ve really noticed the last couple of months is how easy it is to go past Fred. He has plenty of energy, but he overcommits himself with the press. Players end up walking past him because he oversells himself, you can see exactly what he’s going to do. When we signed Carrick I can remember everyone saying we’d signed a Pirlo when we needed a Gattuso. I was away with some mates in a caravan in Whitby when the deal was done and a couple of them ripped me because Carrick “didn’t tackle”. But that kind of tackling’s gone out of the game now anyway. There are no Gattuso’s at the top level. Players who break up the play well are also more than capable with the ball at their feet. I can remember reading that Xabi Alonso was stunned when he discovered the English consider tackling an attribute. The two we’ve got in there aren’t great at breaking things up and on the whole are poor with the ball.

Kante, Fabinho, Rice all very good at tackling and winning the ball but also equally good at intercepting the ball. with a bit of coaching i can see Fred and McTom improving in their pressing and winning the ball because your dead right about them over committing every time but timing and positioning can be coached. there is a skill in staying still and in position and not following the ball just like a prime Matic.

Tiny squad, too small for the PL and a bang average attack and defense. They are sitting 6th in the PL and averaging 56% possession. Neves is a massively underrated CM who has it all plus real intelligence and leadership qualities.

Anyway, how’s the ref not given the penalty without VAR? It’s about as stonewall as you can get.
