In an odd way, if you had a version of Carrick, who could control play and spray passes around, you could get away with Fred’s crap passing and just let him press and tackle, which he does brilliantly in fairness. On this, I watched a Carrick video last night and it’s incredible to me that we didn’t properly try to replace him, bar Kroos. We’ve needed a new version since 2014 yet none of the mids we bought have come close. Matic you could argue I suppose but he was on the wane. Even last night the Arsenal CMs were far more polished in possession. It’s bordering on scandalous that this hasn’t been fixed. It’s why we never have control of matches. Look at Wolves. Tiny squad, too small for the PL and a bang average attack and defense. They are sitting 6th in the PL and averaging 56% possession. Neves is a massively underrated CM who has it all plus real intelligence and leadership qualities. They are sitting 8th.

Anyway, how’s the ref not given the penalty without VAR? It’s about as stonewall as you can get. It’s their safety net now (VAR).

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned earlier, but I think Amazon did a bang-up job in presenting the game last night. Eleventy million times’ better than the (woeful) BT!

Ally McCoist covered three games in three days and achieved the seemingly impossible by managing to sound enthusiastic about all of them. He doesn’t offer a great deal in the way of insight, but he makes up for it by actually enjoying the football. Much, much better than BT. Isn’t there rumours that BT are flogging their sports arm completely? Wouldn’t mind Amazon taking their share of the football.

I thought Ally was really good, and like you said, he had an infectious enthusiasm for the games, so massive kudos to him! Re BT: I’ve heard exactly the same about them flogging their sports arm.Long overdue, and Amazon would do a far better job if they took it on!
