I appreciate cyclists that ring their bell before passing under a bridge on the canal. Proper tow path etiquette, that. But it doesn't count for much if they don't slow down as well. That bell ring doesn't give me time to get out of the way, it just give me 2 seconds warning that I'm about to get taken out.

Booked Nepal!
Land in Kathmandu 8th Oct, fly back 21st Oct so a lot to try and fit in.
Think we'll spend a few days doing the Langtang Valley trek but looking around for good options either side of that as well

I have mate, one of the villages there got wiped out! Bit raw when that bloke who is talking for most of it then ends up having no legs at the end. And was hoping that twat that took that money got filled in! They've not had one for a long time, so they are probably due one....

Ended up doing the Annapurna circuit finishing with Thorong La Pass.... Best thing I've ever done. Stunning, stunning place. Kathmandu wasn't my cup of tea though, just couldn't relax there. But the higher you went up in the mountains, the better it was.

So I've signed up for a 55km run in December.
I'm somebody who hates running, but am generally fit because I'm semi-regular at the gym and I have excellent control on my food intake which has allowed me to maintain a very good weight in spite of being semi-regular at the gum.. Even then, running, cardio and endurance have never been my focus - I've mostly done weights.
I have 5 months to get ready. Am I totally fucked? I signed up to challenge myself into something totally new for me. I've got a nice group of mates who've also signed up with me, but they've had experience with endurance events before whereas I'm going in totally new.
Any tips from those who have experience with this sort of stuff? What dietary changes should I be making over the next 4 months? I don't eat any junk, very less sugar, moderate amount of carbs and healthy intake of chicken and fish. I will be training with the aforementioned mates so I'm going to go along with their training regimen but once again - if you lads/lasses have any training tips, I'd love to hear them.
Wish me luck, hope I don't die.

Wish me luck, hope I don't die. If you're active enough 5 months is doable. Especially if you have people around you that have done these kind of things before. Training at their level will help condition you to that. Wouldn't say totally fucked at all. 34 miles is a long distance and it will push your limits but if you're committed enough and don't over do it then anything is possible. Nutrition wise I'd say plenty of protein and healthy fats and at least half of your intake should be carb based depending on the intensity of the training as you'll need the fuel for it. Main tip would be to not skimp out on any of the gear, especially running shoes. Either way good luck. You're a braver man than I am 😂.
