Rashford I think there is frustration because when he burst onto the scene under LVG sky was the limit. He hasn't fulfilled his potential and has had a slump in form that thankfully is starting to reverse. But he's scored almost 100 goals for the club and I think it is worth seeing if under Ten Hag he can develop into a more complete forward and develop a winning mentality.
Sancho has been a massive disappointment just like Donny. But unlike Donny he has had a lot of chances to impress but hasn't taken them. I cannot really get over how badly Ole spent all the money given to him....Maguire, AWB, Sancho, Donny, Amad, Telles....that is approaching £300m.
Ronaldo it is a real shame. It is definitely more mental than physical and it must be tough for him not playing regularly and not scoring goals and Erik hasn't helped by making it clear that he prefers Martial and Rashford. I think Ronaldo knows he needs goals to get his season started and that desperation is never good in a striker and would explain the uncharacteristic wastefulness last night. But I would not write him off. But of course on present form Martial should be the one leading the line and Ronaldo can have no real argument about that.
That list of signings there, I think in some ways it’s unfair to Ole to criticise him for all of them.
Maguire, fair enough, he’s bang to rights there, nobody on here wanted us to sign him.
AWB we all seemed to think was a good purchase, even if the actual process of signing him was a mess.
Sancho, everyone barring probably Tatty thought he was an exceptional talent and the word “generational” was being used.
Donny, everyone was chuffed with that signing. You can’t go saying Sancho has had more of a chance than him. The reason for that is that every now and then there’s a glimpse of something in Sancho. Donny has been shit and has never looked up to it. Including at Everton where he started plenty of games.
Amad, his level of talent was really talked up when we bought him. Nobody had a problem with signing a too young prospect.
Telles is another one who was touted on here because he was picking up assists galore abroad.
Most of these players didn’t seem like horrific signings at the time. The question marks were mostly around how much we paid for them rather than the quality of the players themselves.
I dare say if you go back and find the threads and pages from when most of those were signed, we would’ve been largely if not unanimously chuffed to fucking bits.
Hindsight is brilliant init. I’ve seen people on here go berserk that we never signed that fucking Pepe lad who Arsenal got. He was total dogshit as it turned out. Every other player along the conveyer belt needs to be signed and needs to be signed yesterday.
