At least now have a manager that will not accept performances & attitudes like that again. He’s improved us massively but he won’t get away with many more of those kinds of results. Needs to be looking at the line ups in our bad defeats this season and banish the culprits.

Fucking hell, feels like I've lived through a cataclysmic trauma. Having looked back, it's one of those days really - we could have been 2/3 up at HT, but they somehow scratched a goal right before the break. To then concede within the first moments of the second half put us out of it, and we were always going to be left open after that. Some of their goals (2-3) were insanely fortunate too, deflections putting it on a plate. On another day we take our first half chances and win that, but I don't think they were 7 goals better than us - everything just fell for them on the day, ref had a few dodgy moments too. Anyway, I'll probably Aguerooooo this baby, and with a bit of strategic viewing will never see footage of this game again. It takes some psycho-acrobatics to even add this into the equation
There were a couple of penalty shouts late on, that perhaps would have been given on another day, but I felt the ref pitied us too

The marketing machine at the club couldn't wait to milk it for everything it was worth.

It's horrific, but let's not throw the entire season out of the window as a result of this one game - we have, quite simply, been brilliant (potentially the best in Europe in terms of results) since the WC.
If we can get top 3, and win two cups, then that would be a brilliant start for ETH.
Trying to keep my focus on the bigger picture here, and the fact is with a proper CF, and a quality CM addition, we'll be right up there next year if we keep at this.
Being pragmatic (mildly psychotic), this could be a good wake-up call + motivator as the team heads into some proper big games.

We needed a squad yesterday, some players have played too many games but we can't bench them unfortunately because the drop in quality is extreme.
No excuse, we got beat and got beat hard. Doesn't change the fact that We're still having a great seasons results wise.
But ETH needs to prioritise games now. Losing 7-0 to the scouse won't matter if we sweep up the cups.

I've seen a few people criticize the mentality of the team - I agree to some extent, but for the most part we seem to have genuinely developed a strong spine this season.
Part of me attributes yesterday's debacle to extreme bad luck, compounded with some basic errors that just made it exponentially worse.
In Varane, Casemiro & Martinez we have a solid + mentally strong base - it's in front of that where things seem to unravel in terms of big game temperament (Bruno, Fred, Antony, Wout, even Rashford). Hopefully fixing that in the Summer will address that mental fragility in the team.
At the same time, as has been mentioned, the team could also be exahusted from over-relying on the same set of starters.

Casemiro looked injured early on and Fred (who has played well in big games) was out on his feet. The amount of games played was going to catch up eventually and of course it was yesterday. Someone mentioned Sabitzer above, prime example. He needs to play more from now on. Sancho, Malacia and Garnacho the same. The squad is wafer-thin but he’s exacerbating it by picking the same players constantly. I think we all realise the Weghorst story was an uplifting one but he shouldn’t start more than a handful of games from here on in. But we also know he’ll probably start virtually of them.

I’m trying to be more level headed this morning and thinking if we bag another trophy or 2, whilst solidifying our top 4 spot and they can’t even get into the top 4 then maybe, just maybe I will be able to put this utter freak-show to the back of my mind.
Still can’t stomach watching us for at least our next couple of games though!

De Gea 6 Shaw 5 Rashford 5 Fred 4 Dalot 4 Bruno 3
Number of managers . All started yesterday and have done in our worst defeats this season. If we want to challenge let’s start with some uncomfortable truths.

How his name is dragged into this I don't know.
Wout does not belong here, no matter how emotional he gets with winning a trophy in the twilight of his career. Antony is on course to becoming an even bigger waste of cash than Maguire, and Fred is a 50 million terrier, who'll occasionally shin a couple of goals. Bruno is a huge disappointment. Lost count of the goals, but in one of them he lost the ball around the halfway line, and decided to just stand with his arms flapping instead of chasing the player. Terrible from a team captain. Speaking of Bruno, the decision to start him on the left wing was odd. What was ETH thinking when TAA is supposedly the weakest link in the scouse defense. I mean, we have zero threat from the right anyway.

Still need to ship out some players. We can’t even blame Maguire for this afternoon either. Allowing failure to remain in a squad breeds failure.

Midfield got overrun because Casemiro had a very rare bad day and Erik set up to give Liverpool a numerical advantage. Our fullbacks were both absolute shit. And our wide players never really put in a defensive shift. That allowed them to really get at us with their front 3 (which finally clicked in a big way and was unplayable) and attacking fullbacks. And as we know Bruno and Rashford often go missing when the team plays badly and Wout really shouldn't be playing in the big games (which is on Erik). And we've seen Liverpool do this kind of thing before in previous seasons so they were able to roll back the years last night (as sadly did we with this spineless performance).
Hopefully this will be an important reality check. Some complacency probably set in after we won our first trophy and managed to get out of jail against Leeds and West Ham. And we are overdue a bad patch of form. The real challenge is to stop it turning into a slump which is what was our undoing under Ole and LVG. And Erik also needed a reality check. He's got a lot of work still to do to get us back on top and as a manager he has to take some responsibility for this defeat and got the tactics and team selection wrong. This Wout as a number 10 experiment may occasionally work against weak opposition but it was definitely a factor yesterday and Wout shouldn't be playing in the big games. Similarly playing Bruno out of position. And his habit of sticking with a winning team/tactics instead of adapting to the opposition.

I think my recent record on Rashford shows that when players perform, I am fair in praising them. Rashford was missing yesterday. Possibly not his fault because as a sole main striker you are relying on the midfield behind you, but in the second half he might as well not have been playing. He was quiet in the final last week as well - we commented on it during the game. The difference is when he was involved he was terrifying Newcastle and he scored.
