I totally agree Bestie, but sometimes it can be somewhat true when the entirety of the midfield + creative options in behind are having a nightmare + the other winger is a consistent culdesac.
Antony reminds me of Valencia in a weird way, basically a one trick pony with a trick he does repeatedly + very well. You aren't going to score a worldy left footed curler every game though.
Simultaneously super predictable and diminishes our ability to break forward at speed.

It's horrific, but let's not throw the entire season out of the window as a result of this one game - we have, quite simply, been brilliant (potentially the best in Europe in terms of results) since the WC. If we can get top 3, and win two cups, then that would be a brilliant start for ETH. Trying to keep my focus on the bigger picture here, and the fact is with a proper CF, and a quality CM addition, we'll be right up there next year if we keep at this. Being pragmatic (mildly psychotic), this could be a good wake-up call + motivator as the team heads into some proper big games. Losing 7-0 to Liverpool is season defining though. Nothing we do for the rest of the season changes or improves it. I can't believe I'm actually typing about Manchester United losing 7-0 to Liverpool. Top three wasn't a brilliant anything before this. Two trophies was the bare minimum before this. There is no glossing this up. Yesterday was historic. It's the worst moment I have ever experienced watching United bar none. It genuinely feels surreal, unfathomable. I literally shake when I think about it. The magnitude of this cannot be willed away by scratching for positivity. This kind of humiliation transcends the sport.

Sure, a lot of this is subjective though - I for one will be pleased with 2/3 trophies and 3rd place in the league bearing in mind where we finished and in what state we were in last season. Not glossing, but totally throwing out any progress we've made and somehow building a statue of remembrance that overshadows everything positive this season is perhaps not the way my brain will ultimately process this result.

I would rather give the manager another shot than some of the mugs that let him down yesterday because we know many of them will go hiding like they did yesterday for the next manager.
As much as he’s improved them many still need slinging out.

Fucking sack him. We were quick enough to terminate Ronaldo's contract for telling the truth.

I'm not the one who will build a statue Jay. Football will. Liverpool will. Anyone in that fucking squad with any shame will. You can choose to bury your head but this season is now the season we were demolished 7-0 by Liverpool.

Agree Erik can't come out with crap like "the players didn't follow instructions" when he got the tactics and team selection wrong and didn't adapt when the early warning signs were there.
As for Rashford he's been amazing since the start of the year but he does have a longstanding tendency to go missing when the team is playing badly. Erik needs to kick that habit out of him. But Bruno is far far worse in that regard especially as he is supposed to be captain. But both are senior players and needed to show more leadership on the pitch.
Hopefully this is a catalyst to bring Sabitzer into the fold. He was captain at Leipzig and has a lot of experience and quality and it is what our midfield needs to ease the burden on Casemiro. And hopefully it will also end the Wout experiment. Rashford can do a job for us at top and is the player you want to get on the end of chances and Garnacho deserves to be starting and Bruno shouldn't be played out of position.
Part of me almost hopes we hit a patch of rough form so that Erik can figure out who the fair weather players are and doesn't get complacent about the size of the rebuild required. This board is more realistic than most fan forums but even some of us were starting to say we were only a few players away from completing the rebuild. Also every other manager saw impressive runs of results end with a long slump in form so it will be a chance for Erik to prove he is different and can stop the rot setting in.

I’d cull most of that squad. Bunch of losers.

Sabitzer should have started, you simply want to control the midfield in games like this and we all know sabitzer and Casemiro and Fred would have given us the best chance at at that. Have Sabizter and Casemiro started together before? I wasn't sure, but I get your point - also, the former hadn't started in a couple of games so even though I agree with you that he should have started I'm not sure throwing him in a starting XI at Anfield would have been the intuitive option. Agreed though, Sabitzer should have started ahead of Fred. Yeah we are yet to see them start together. I get that ETH always likes to play players when in form but honestly Sabitzer is a far more complete midfielder than Fred and in games like this you play your best team. I would have played all 3 and allowed Fred to buzz around and Antony would have dropped out for me.

The sooner we sell the sooner ETH can unleash, I will give him that because Casemiro to MCT is completely unacceptable. That is poor, no Manchester United manager should have that drop off in quality of selection. To have Martial and Weghorst as the striking options is not on, one is injured galore and the other whilst he gives it his all, he simply is not the answer.
This summer the key issues must be addressed and that Murtough needs to earn his wage and title or get released of his duties.

With all due respect, ETH needs his arse kicked too this morning He didn't pick the wrong side, and his team has been training the squad as well as anyone could demand - we just don't have the squad depth to go deep into all these competitions without exhaustion/totally abysmal luck popping up every now and again. I looked at that XI and, other than Antony and Wout (we have nobody else since Martial is a perpetual sick note), I thought they'd be able to get a result. Once the team steps onto the pitch, I'm not sure Ten Hag can do much more - his in-game management and ability to switch and change things around has been brilliant. Yesterday was a total freakshow, though! I thought he did. Our strongest spot going forward is on the left. The scouse weakest in defense is on the right. I couldn't see past either Rashford or Garnacho testing TAA on that side of the pitch. Playing Bruno there practically meant a walk in the park for TAA instead of having Shaw and Rashford/Garnacho in his face. Then Bruno was missed in areas where he could potentially cause damage. Weghorst is shit. Admittedly, he looks a very nice bloke but on the pitch he looks like a fan contest winner who gets to play in the first team. Antony is a mystery. What was ETH thinking when he sanctioned a 100 million EUR move? When is the time to admit it was a mistake? Will he, because so far it seems that he's not willing to.

There's nothing really that can defend Bruno yesterday. Everything was poor, including his attitude. However I didn't understand the idea of shipping him out onto the left. Even if he wanted to play Rashford up top he could have put Antony on the left and Bruno on the right (a position he's actually done well in before).
I'm not making excuses for him over it, just didn't see the plan behind it all. I think Ten Hag is the guy to get us back to our best but sometimes his experiments do baffle me if big games like this.

He's a bit of a weapon but MikeLUHG on Twitter has militantly high standards and this was just retweeted on my feed. It's going to be unpopular because some of the favourites are outed but it's hard to objectively disagree with much if any of it:

Regards Antony why can’t a left footed winger play on the left? His trick and it’s not often is to cut inside from the right and he will sometimes get a shot on target but it’s so predictable the keepers shuffle to their right as they know like everyone else where the ball will end up. We spent an awful lot of money on him for little end product.
