I think most are in agreement that what we’ve seen since we won the Carling Cup hasn’t really been impressive. As the manager, ETH definitely has a lot of responsibility for it.
Having said that, I see no point in replacing him without first seeing the club completely reshape how our football management functions.
Say we sack ETH tomorrow. We will most likely put Steve McClaren as our manager until the end of the season. We’ll then most likely hire a top available name as our manager. I’ll summarise this poor (very rich) bugger’s next 2.5 years: We couldn’t afford to buy all the players he needed, he has a lot of players that don’t fit his style from ETH, some signs of promise before eventually it all collapses because Rashford isn’t performing anymore and some other top player who came here too late for a lot of money is showing his age. He gets sacked.
This cycle needs to end with us actually first having a plan.

I won't hear it that after almost 16 months we still have no discernible style of football, and somehow that doesn't fall at the feet of the manager. Postecoglu has been here 6 months and he lost his best player and they'll probably be top of the table by end of today. Forget Jose and how wrong we were about him - way things are going, we may have to be really fucking wrong about shitting on Ronaldo too.... |

Hojlund hasn't scored any Premier League goals this season and neither has Antony. Admittedly they've had fewer minutes than Rashford. But it clearly indicates there is something wrong with our tactics this season.
But I think we'd also do a lot better if we played Garnacho on the left and Mount on the right which would probably improve the service to Hojlund and once he starts scoring he could go on a run. Erik is clearly playing favourites by continuing to select Antony and Rashford and it could be his downfall.
Part of the issue I think is that Erik has more options and therefore is trying to implement his system and completely failing. We don't have the ability to play from the back or press from the front or control games. We are much better at direct and counter attacking football. He needs to be a lot more pragmatic if he wants to save his job.

I think I am right in saying Hojlund, Martial, Rashford, Antony and Garnacho have 1 goal between them in the PL this year? So Rashford is our top scorer among our forwards. They're all massively overrated and we are still playing with Rashford and Martial since Van Gaals days. Hojlund is a decent buy but massively inexperienced, but we needed a proven top striker as well if we were serious backers of any manager At the moment we have a new and unsettled forward line. I don't know what the midfield set up is anymore with Mount etc and Amrabat has played 2 games there. The back four is a complete shit show with bot CB's out as well as having 1 fit full back and 4 injured and not available Up until last year this guy was a top coach working with little and now he's the worst we've had? |

We have a mid table level back four and that's being kind, we have Scott starting games who should be at West ham or someone like that, we have martial coming on to change games for us, who's time at the club was up 5 years ago, it's no wonder we are playing as bad as we are, the clubs a joke.

Tottenham apparently passed on ten hag because they said he lacked charisma.
So maybe that’s the problem. He’s managing big name players with big egos and attitudes and they aren’t as coachable as the young and technically able players he used to coach at Ajax.
And to make a system work especially a modern progressive system you need everyone to be following instructions and performing the roles required otherwise it looks like a disjointed mess which is what I think we are seeing.

Might be worth remembering that the guys out injured/sulking and beating on spouses would make up quite a good team
Varane, Shaw, wan bissaka, martinez, mainoo, greenwood, sancho etc.
We would look better with a back 4 of varane, licha, Shaw and dalot.
