Anyone even remotely involved in the Antony transfer that did not say, “We can’t pay this amount of money for him, it’s mental, let’s look elsewhere or develope what we have”, needs to be sacked. Might seem harsh but you simply cannot work with people that are that mindless that they don’t question how a players value doubled in 6 weeks, also how we valued him at £25 million a year earlier. Dan James was a better player than Antony. He truly is an awful player. Given his price tag I can't think of a bigger waste of money.

This is just completely unacceptable Gary Neville at Valencia • 28 games • 11 losses • 39 goals • 38 goals conceded Ten Hag 23/24 • 28 games • 14 losses • 37 goals • 45 goals conceded Fucking hell. Makes you sick looking at it

We could just leave him on the half way line and he was useful on the counter.

I want Sancho gone but christ I'd even rather him back in the side than seeing Antony anywhere near it.

The can both get out, one has a ton of talent but pathetic mindset and application, disgusting waste of talent and wages. The other just ain't that good but is committed, sadly he is a victim of a pathetic negotiation team that should have told Ajax to absolutely choke on their next sale and a manager that should be nowhere near telling us specific players he wants at all costs

We are where we are because of recruitment and acceptance of mediocre players calling the shots. Top coaches recognise the players they need and are normally the first place you'd want to validate recruitment against.

No one with a brain would deny a manager involvement, if the manager and club have a style they wanna play and a manager wants a certain type of player to compliment that then he will rightly say so, sometimes he might even identify the specific player best suited but no manager none whatsoever should be pushing at all costs. You simply don’t have another Antony situation, you don’t have the DDG debacle either. We went completely the other way with ETH, as usual no balance and checks and the result is clear for all to see. Decent players, some even good but we have overpaid massively in the pursuit. I I’d wager any other club that really wanted De Jong say city or Bayern would not have offered a penny more than 50 million euro. The talent is there but his club wanted rid of him, we had over 70 million on the table, it’s ludicrous

Can’t be arsed knocking it up, but I would insert the Partridge “can I just shock you?” meme here about me liking the fidget spin. Don’t have a problem with it, it’s the best thing he does (not a lot to choose from). Unfortunately he is an absolute bag of wank as a footballer. Dan James was better in that he has pace. Now, Dan James is also fucking shit, but he’s rapid. As I said the other day, majority of our wingers are painfully slow. Sancho is better than Antony also, but on principle, at least Antony wants to play.

Yeah we have created an absolute monster in ETH by indulging him the way we have done. At Ajax he was happy to work in a structure where Overmars called the shots over recruitment and Van der Sar also had sway as CEO. And that recruitment process was supported by a scouting network that was integral to the Ajax business model of buying young talented players, developing them and selling them for a tidy profit.
Since he took over he has completely ignored our scouts and instead insisted on buying players that he's coached previously, are on the same books as his agent, or played in the Dutch league at some point (as if that was some kind of guarantee of quality!).
The Frenkie saga was as stupid as the Fabregas saga in Moyes' first summer at the club. The Antony signing was infinitely worse than the Fellaini signing as we overpaid by around £50m and at least Fellaini was an occasional matchwinner and provided occasional goals and assists. This season Antony has played over 20 games and has zero goals and zero assists. That has to be some kind of record. Even for us. Malacia was crap last season and injured this season. Wout was appallingly bad even allowing for our limited budget. Of the players Erik wanted only Martinez turned out to be a good signing.
Last summer was much worse. Onana has been a massive liability. We overpaid for Mount and he was the wrong profile of player and joined us after a season of poor form and injuries at Chelsea which seems to be recurring with us. Hojlund is a fine prospect but a target man is wasted on us. Amrabat hasn't made much of an impact and looks a bit too slow and ponderous for the Premier League.
And it is difficult to imagine this summer being much of an improvement. We are no closer to lining up a transfer chief or footballing director and if they arrive in the summer they won't have enough time to draw up a well researched shortlist of targets and our business will probably be done late in the window by which point the pickings will be slim and the prices a lot higher. And if Erik is still around his poor judgement and seeming inability to identify the profile of player he needs will continue to hinder us.

...not to mention his complete inability to coach the footballers at his disposal to play anything other than the two extremes of turgid meekness or total chaos...

I would be staggered if we haven’t already got a DoF lined up and that there hasn’t already been scouting done to identify summer targets. Jim isn’t stupid and has known for ages that he would be taking over the football side of things.
He cannot surely be unprepared as suggested…

I want to see our targets signed early and acclimated into the club for the start of the season. Outgoing moved on quickly as well. Another foot dragging summer and I will lose what’s left of my UTD mind. The anxiety filled summers should be a thing of the past, please be a thing of the past….

Another thing we need to eradicate is the criminally high wages we pay. Sancho, no one else in the running, youngster and we offer £350k!!! Why would you do something that daft. Let’s say he came in and had a blinder, his next contract would be at what £500k?? Just mental and shows a lack of negotiation.
Antony, £200k a week, he was on £25k a week!!!! Why would you need to offer those wages when you are the only club that’s in for him, should have capped those wages at £75k or less.
It’s another reason we struggle to sell, the players don’t want to take wage cuts and then we are stuck.
