Scholes knows.
"I've heard a lot of United fans saying they're excited for the new season, but I'm struggling to get excited. The middle of the pitch being an area where we're just f***ing empty. Teams just breaking through us.”

The whole team of football directors, coaches and management just can't honestly believe this team can improve without major investment in that midfield! It's good that one of our greatest midfielders is making that point fucking crystal clear though!

It's not only the midfield that Scholes is worried about and I make him right. That's why I asked the question why is Zirkzee not in contention to play at the start of the season. We are being told we have very tight budgets and have to sell players, but they spend 100m on 2 barely tested youngsters. Those guys are exciting talents, but the kind of money you spend on a stable competing team, when you have the money!
Surely when you have a team decimated by constant injuries and past it players plus a clear lack of experienced strikers. You don't ignore your key targets and areas, when there are good options available.
Scholes
“Hojlund, could he score 25 goals for us this season? I’d be amazed. I’d be surprised. When you look at someone like Ivan Toney (linked with a £40m move), could he score 25? I think he could.
“I think he’s really good Carra, but he’s been brought into this country and he was what [20 years of age], and he’s been asked to be the number nine for Man United, it’s an iconic role.
“He should have been a second, third or fourth striker at a big club.”
Continuing, Scholes added that goals are where he expects a big issue to stem from for United – while he’s also unimpressed by Zirkzee.
“I think goals are going to be a problem, I had a look at Zirkzee, and I don’t think he’s a great goalscorer wherever he’s been.”

it wouldnt surprise me seeing Bruno playing false 9 more this season if we have mount available in midfield and also a lack of CF's.
tbh id rather bruno in CF than Rashford.

As Zirkzee’s team went quite far, he’s only just been allowed back. This is actually a good initiative which protects players long-term, however frustrating it might be at the weekend.

Never got the Toney hype. Seems bang average to me.

Hojlund scored 16 goals for us last season. That is pretty good going considering how bad the service was and it was only his 1st season. He is good enough to be our number 9 and will get better and better. Zirzkee is a bit underwhelming as backup but he was inexpensive which will allow us to strengthen other areas of the team and while he isn't a prolific goal-scorer he is creative and adds something different to our attack.
The challenge next season is to get Rashford scoring 20+ goals. Ruud will hopefully help with that. But I also expect that Rashford will combine better with Zirzkee. Rashford is more of an inside forward so playing an out-and-out striker like Hojlund cramps his style somewhat. He's also suffered from not having Shaw available on the left.
And this may be an unpopular opinion but I think that Sancho could make a difference this season as he has a point to prove and he combined very well for Dortmund with Haaland so might strike up a similar partnership with Hojlund.
We are bound to sign a midfielder. Whether it will be Ugarte/Zubimendi/Fofana/Kone/Berge/Ederson or someone else I don't know. But the good thing about INEOS is that they are quite capable of exploring alternative targets and working under a budget something our previous recruitment team were completely incapable of doing.
And if we start controlling midfield better we will concede fewer goals and create more chances.
Of course we are a long way off challenging for the title even if we do manage to complete our business and bring in a midfielder, De Ligt and Mazrouia.
But we should have a more balanced squad next season and we have young players like Garnacho, Mainoo, Hojlund, Yoro, Collyer, Amass who are going to get better and better as they develop and next summer we can strengthen the flanks bringing in a creative winger and a left back.

Shaw, Wan Bissaka, Lindelof and Maguire injured for Saturday Shouldn’t be including Shaw anyway, only came back to training this week. Anyone with fitness question marks should be held back until Fulham.

Had another little holiday. I'd say he needed games before the PL starts There’s an allotted period of time they have to have off following a tournament so he was never coming back before this week. Same as Mainoo.

Shaw needs to be fucked off now. Should never have gone to the Euros.
Another postion to add to the list to be ignored.
