'We need to sign an extra striker in the summer. And if we can sign another central midfielder and a replacement for Varane, things will look good again. If the team remains fit we can try and aim for top four again,' ETH May 2024.
Maybe we should listen to the manager who we reluctantly decided to back this summer and stick to the original plan and complete our priority business by signing Ugarte. And we can get that done pretty quickly given we've already agreed terms and PSG have already signed Neves as a replacement. Their £50m asking price is reasonable. And they paid that price themselves a year ago.
De Ligt would be a very nice to have especially as Yoro is only 18 and already injured and Martinez has recurring injury issues. But we have an incredibly limited budget so if we want him as well we need to sell Scotty.

In other news.... We've apparently made a bid of around 30-40mil for Frenkie De Jong. here we go again. His wages are going to be the issue as weren't not paying anywhere over to 600k a week. Would be happy to see him and Berge coming in with the hope that we can offload McTominay aswell. Newer reports are saying he is willing to take a pay cut. It will need to be a massive one because 600k, even 400K it a bit much. Hopefully we can come to a reasonable agreement because he would be a solid pick up

As for FDJ. Memories are short. Don't we remember the whole saga about the deferred wages he was owed for the COVID period which Barcelona tried to get us to pay. Anyway I do not think he is as much of a priority now we have Mainoo. We need a midfield destroyer type like Ugarte.

He was outshone at the Euros by Depays Alice band

Mazraoui missed 19 games in 2023/24, 12 in 2022/23, 9 in 2021/22 and 31 in 2020/21. I have no idea why we are intending to waste £15-£20m on him. I'd rather we sell AWB to raise funds (given he has a year left on his deal). See if we can get £15m. And use that £15m to increase our bids for Ugarte and De Ligt and land both of them. We'd be left a little short in the full back positions. But the spine of the team would be pretty bullet-proof. Dalot is rarely injured. Yoro can cover right back and it will allow us to give him more games as he will not be first choice centre back when De Ligt and Martinez are fit. Vic can also play at RB. Shaw will start the season fit and if he does get injured hopefully at that point Amass will be ready to step up. Or Malacia will return from the dead. Then next summer we can address the full back positions and the winger positions depending on the performance and fitness of the various players we have in our current squad and who is available next summer. YIKES. I did not know that. No use of having a better player than AWB if he won't ever be able to play. I'm still firm on de Ligt though. It's because it's a cheap option to replace AWB and have someone who can play at LB when the other consistently injured LB is on the treatment table again!

First game 2 years ago ETH team:
De Gea
Dalot Maguire Martinez Shaw
McTominay Eriksen Fred
Sancho Fernandes Rashford
8/9 of those will start the first game this year?

Al Nassr reportedly interested in Antony! Get this done ASAP. the output he provides might as well have Pellistri playing. Amad & Pellistri can do for a season. Garnacho & Rashford for the LW. Sancho can deputise either side or 10. that would free the funds to sign Ugarte / De Ligt

Definitely have enough wide options if we can’t shift Sancho.

£30m we should bite their hands off! It is a fantastic price for him. INEOS were willing to take a massive hit on Donny so will hopefully be willing to do the same for Antony.
He won't be missed at all. Amad can play on the right. Rashford can play on the left. And Garnacho and Sancho can play on both wings. And Mount can also play out wide. He is completely expendable and has been a complete flop for us.
And we will be able to keep Scotty so he can continue his role as an impact sub and a source of late goals.
