Inevitable really. Our net spend has now reached around £90m. We already received a slap on the wrist for overspending the last 2 summers so I very much doubt we have enough left over to buy Ugarte. And this should have been obvious a week ago but we pressed ahead with the De Ligt-Mazrouia double deal.
I also suspect that Erik hasn't realized that Casemiro has finished as his recent comments below indicate:
"He has a pre-season so he is very fit in this moment. I think, as a team, we work good together and I think that makes it for Case very easy. Then he can bring his skills in and then you can see his importance for the game and for our team. He is a big leader for us and very important for the team. Attacking, defending, we are together."
So maybe for that reason Erik is fine with a back-up defensive midfield option such as Berge.
I also think that the defensive injury crisis scarred Erik and Yoro's injury made him panic and demand another centre back ahead of a midfielder.
I guess we will see what happens. But I have a feeling we will regret not signing Ugarte for £50m.

The person that will benefit most from De Ligt is Yoro. Less pressure to be an instant impact.

I’ll say this for Casemiro. He is visibly in better shape than he was last year. It’s very evident.
Won’t make him quicker or anything, but still.

Souness apparently calling De ligt "light weight and saying you want your defenders to defend".... whatever that means It means Souness doesn't watch nearly as much football as he probably should, the lad is anything but lightweight!

Think we turned our nose up at him a few year ago because his dad’s fat and he looked heavy set.

The other weird narrative was Dier was chosen over him, but Dier started 19x and of those 19 starts 18 was with De Ligt.....

If De Ligt was going to any other top club in the league, he'd be up there with the best CB's in Europe.
The Anti United narrative is so evident and loving every second of it.
