Assuming the terms are reasonable Sterling and Toney in and Sancho out would probably put us in the title race. And they'd provide a good bridge over the next 3 years as players like Hojlund, Garnacho, Amad and Zirzkee continue to mature. And the way INEOS negotiate we should be able to get it done with a fairly minimal net spend. I think you are being way too optimistic. In case you forgot, we finished 8th , scored 57 goals and finished with -1 goal difference last season. There is no way adding those 2 to puts us in title race, especially when Pep is still in city. I think he means added to all the other signings. Still wrong though, Erik wouldn't pick them until late October.

One of the highlights of this window isn't actually any of the transfers in particular, but the gradual meltdown of Newcastle fans as they went from claiming Dan Ashworth didn't really do much at their club, to realising their first window without him as been an absolute shitshow.

They're a gift. They still think we paid 20m for Ashworth. Even with black and white proof they're in detail. Never seen a fanbase so desperate for recognition they have to latch on to us at every opportunity.

Sancho now saying he prefers Chelsea and wants to wait for an offer from them. Get him the fuck out of the club ASAP. The Italian fans will tear him to bits if he shows the half arsed attitude that he has here. he can hide away among their 40 players at Chelsea.

I’ve nothing but positive words for Scottie. Limited player but a likeable lad with a brilliant attitude and come up with some important goals.
Still think 30mil is cheap for a homegrown player in this climate when you look at some of the ridiculous fees flying about. Especially for a player who seems fairly highly thought of by many. Hope he does well.

Hope he does well. There were any number of players I’d have sold before him. But the slightly bizarre fashion in which we’ve prioritised positions this summer meant a mid had to go before Ugarte could come in, so it’s understandable. At least Napoli is a good move for him.

Similarly positive on McTominay, I'd also have sold a few players before him but it is what it is.
I think he'll do well in Naples, out of all the clubs in Serie A I think it's the best fit.

Talk Teden Mengi is off to Torino, and we have a decent sell-on clause for that.

End of the day we had to raise funds to balance the books. We tried selling Casemiro, Sancho, Lindelof and Eriksen and there were no takers. We got as much as we could for Greenwood, Kambwala, Donny, AWB, Pellistri and Hannibal. Martial and Varane both left on free transfers.
And under FFP rules the sale proceeds from homegrown players is pure profit whereas taking a hit on recent signings (e.g. Antony, Mount etc) wouldn't help much and we overspent the last few windows and narrowly escaped fines so we couldn't risk it.
You could argue that we should have signed Ugarte before De Ligt. But really we do need both players. Yoro is already injured and at 18 cannot be expected to play 40-50 games a season. Martinez has struggled with injuries throughout his time for us. Maguire isn't good enough and Evans is too old and Lindelof is mediocre and also injury prone. So sacrificing Scotty was the right thing to do especially with his contract expiring in a few years and his opportunities likely to be a lot more limited now we've signed Ugarte and Zirzkee and Erik seems determined to persist with Mount.
I wish him all the best. He was a useful player for us over the years and if he was surrounded by better players and our finances were in a better state he deserved to be retained as a squad player. But we need to be ruthless during the rebuild there is no room for sentiment. And while it is not fair that less deserving players get to remain because their huge salaries, bad attitudes and mediocre performance make them hard to shift, their time will come as eventually their contracts will run out or we will find a buyer so they are really just getting a stay of execution.
Yoro, Mazraoui, Dalot, De Ligt, Martinez, Ugarte, Mainoo, Amad, Garnacho, Bruno, Zirzkee, Hojlund are the core of the new team we are building. And there are some other youngsters coming through the ranks who will get added to that list.
Mount, Rashford, Onana all need to be upgraded at some point.
Shaw, Casemiro, Lindelof, Maguire, Antony, Sancho all need shifting.
