Seems like Bayern want 55 million for both players. That seems quite reasonable?

Think it's a £10 million difference.

Yeah £55m is reasonable enough and we will recoup about £15m through selling AWB so net spend of £40m.
Should get it done before we get a few more players injured or have a shit start to the season and Bayern get more leverage and can jack up the price.

www.footballfancast.com/man-utd-in-shock-talks-for-sander-berge-like-martin-zubimendi/ This is a good write up. Echoes what Stew and bushy1987 have been saying. Good on the ball. Battle tested. And you'd imagine he'd be very grateful for the opportunity and give us 100%. Burnley signed him for £12m last summer so they'd be happy to double their money especially as their finances took a hit on relegation and the player isn't keen to play in the Championship. So £20-£25m might get a deal done. Which is a reasonable fee for a squad player and heaven knows we need a few defensive midfielders as the only number 6 we currently have is Casemiro who is past it and Collyer would probably benefit from a loan move. Don’t mind this signing. Rather them sign a player with the correct profile than just sign a big name player for the sake of it. These types of signings have been terrific in the past.

Is it me living in a bubble or is the transfer window pretty quiet for most clubs?

Problem is at this rate it’s going to be a missed opportunity to close the gap. Yoro is a fantastic prospect but he’s out for at least 3m and at 18 shouldn’t be overplayed. ZIrzkee is useful cover but remains to be seen whether he’s good enough (Bayern didn’t think he was).
We are £10m short of what Bayern want for De Ligt and £10m short of what PSG want for Ugarte. Neither club is budging and without a big player sale we can’t afford both. And hoping that one or both clubs cave in the final weeks isn’t a great strategy especially when the prices they are demanding aren’t unreasonable and they are big clubs that aren’t forced to sell.
Personally I’d just pay up for De Ligt. He’s a very good player and I don’t trust Martinez to stay fit and don’t want us overplaying Yoro and burning him out or turning him into the next Jones. And we don’t really have any viable alternatives.
But in midfield either the Burnley lad or Rabiot would do for next season and be useful squad players after that and then next summer we can go back in for Ugarte if his price drops or go for Zubimendi or Frenkie or someone else.
At this point I want us to finish our business so we have a balanced squad for next season that can get through the inevitable periodic injury crises

I get the same feeling. INEOS can take the moral high ground by refusing to give in to PSG and Bayern's demands and claiming they are taking a long view.
But the reality is we haven't improved the squad sufficiently to give Erik a fighting chance next season. Yoro is one for the future so while he is good enough to start next season he won't appreciably improve our defence especially as he is replacing Varane. Zirzkee is a late bloomer who benefited from the step down to Anderlecht and Bologna but remains to be seen whether he can step up to play for us. He's probably a better fit than Hojlund and I think it is a savvy signing especially at the price we got him for but he isn't going to solve our goalscoring problems next season. So we are again having to pin our hopes on Rashford and Bruno.
We will have the exact same midfield problems next season. Casemiro is no longer fit for purpose. So it seems petty to quibble over £10m with PSG when Ugarte can do the same job Casemiro did for us in his first season and at 23 can anchor our defence for the next decade. So seems stupid to argue whether he is worth £50m or £60m. And if we decide to prioritize defence given Yoro's injury and AWB's imminent sale then at least buy the Burnley lad or Rabiot so we have a number 6 for next season.
And we all know the problem with signing players late in the summer. Erik will refuse to play them until he has integrated them through training sessions. He's already indicated he won't be starting Zirzkee and is instead talking up Sancho as a false 9. And at this rate Maguire and Casemiro will be having to play our opening fixtures in August and that will probably mean conceding a few goals a game.
And we are going to be playing a huge number of games next season as we are in the Europa League which is a marathon and one we will need to try to win given that we aren't good value for top 4. And we simply do not have enough strength in depth and our midfield is incredibly unbalanced.

Season officially starts in 6 days… We're completely fucked. INEOS are pissing next season away by not addressing midfield and now considering the number of injuries accumulated, the defense. How the fuck are the new recruits supposed to integrate with the team in time? Absurd and stupid.

We're fucked if we are going into a season reliant on fucking Casemiro or McTominay to partner Mainoo again. That said, I do think we'll see movement this week.
