Gomes from Wolves seems to be the new target.

I think (hope) that PSG will blink…
They don’t really want Ugarte and they are getting Neves so they will hopefully become a bit more reasonable…

They aren't being unreasonable. They want £50m for him. That seems like a fair price for a good young player. And it was a price they themselves were willing to pay a year ago. His value hasn't diminished during his time at PSG. He acquitted himself well enough but just fell out of favour and he showed in the Copa America his qualities.
He's exactly the profile of player we need. There is less need for a defensive playmaker because we have Mainoo. So someone like Ugarte who is tough tackling and good at reading the game and a lot more mobile than Casemiro is just what the doctor ordered.
And I worry if this is going to be a problem with INEOS. Obviously we don't want to get ripped off the way we used to for crap players. And we were correct to tell Everton to piss off. But refusing to pay up a little for Ugarte and De Ligt when they are quality players available at reasonable prices just smacks of being cheap for the sake of it. Especially when we are only £10m apart in each case on the valuation.
We can piss around and explore other deals. But this late in the window every club will want to get good prices for their players because they know that buying replacements late in the window will be expensive. And we aren't going to get back on top by buying our 2nd or 3rd or 4th choices on our shortlist just because they are £10-£20m cheaper.

Well this thread has spiraled quickly. I can see why but I will remain giving this new Ownership some faith in they will do what they said they will do. A little frustrated with Yoro getting injured and no one leaving like they need to so we can bring in other players, but this isn't a Woodward run group anymore.
Maybe I'm being over optimistic idk

The Athletic saying we’ve accelerated the Berge interest now we’ve moved on for Ugarte.

Obviously stalling on buying a CM is by far the biggest issue, but I'm also concerned that the sales have stalled. We need to sell for cash but also for balance, and just showing that this is a new era where deadwood won't be kept for years. A couple of outgoings would go a very long way to improving the summer.

The Athletic saying we’ve accelerated the Berge interest now we’ve moved on for Ugarte. I remember him being tidy at Sheffield United, but ultimately he's been a decent player in two fairly awful sides. But that is such a step down from Ugarte, probably for not that much of a cheaper fee. Disappointing IMO.
