There’s similarities with Gyokeres and Hojlund and with some better coaching / foundations Hojlund can be a superb player. The beauty is he has time and age on his side. Gyokeres is 26 coming into his peak. A perfect signing and balance of a forward line. Add in that young kid they signed from arsenal. Amorim has said Gyokeres won’t be going anywhere until the end of the season tho which is fair enough. Very similar physically. But did you see the number of through balls played to him last night? Maybe Anorim can change Hojlund’s positioning slightly? Or perhaps he can get other players to actually pass and cross the ball. Needs to be receiving the ball with open space in front of him. He’s a big lad so he’ll always do ok holding the ball up, but that’s a real waste of the pace he’s got to expect him to be doing that as much as we do. I was quite taken by the physical similarities also. Rasmus much quicker, but Sporting much better at playing to Gyokeres’ strengths. Offers some hope though that Amorim will look at Hojlund as someone he can work with in his system.

There is a rumour that Sporting have a gentleman's agreement with Gyokeres that if he stays with them for the rest of the season they'll accept offers in the £60-70m range (even though his release clause is more like £83m).

good piece about amorims tactics Thank you for posting this, very enlightening breakdown. The new manager has worked out a great system that can be replenished with players who can slot in to their strengths and not just a unicorn who is elusive to find. Having two players that play the #6 and two #10’s on the field but with different attributes is also intriguing. Maybe a pairing of Ugarte and Mainoo with Mainoo getting more forward. And Bruno and Mount or Zirkzee also playing somewhat different roles higher up the pitch could really create chances in the final third. Could be that Amorim can implement his philosophy and style a lot quicker than we think….fingers crossed.

A lot of top clubs interested in him and not getting champs league could effect the decision. Although he could want to play for Amorim again . I wouldn’t rule it out as we still have massive pulling power - it’s whether the funds add up for the new board. If anyone is worth paying 70-80m for it’s a top CF

A prolific goal scorer should be our #1 priority in the summer. These past few seasons we've scored less than 60 goals a season in the Premier League. Hojlund isn't there yet and has had a few injury layoffs already.
We are receiving £30m or so from Chelsea for Sancho in the summer. We can probably recoup most of our outlay on Zirzkee. So we'd only require another £10-£20m or so to buy Gyokores or Osimhen both of whom have reasonable release clauses and as mentioned in the case of Gyokores might be available for even less.
That would still leave around £100m before further player sales to buy another CB (given Amorim likes to play three at the back and Inacio has a £50m release clause)), a LB (and Alvaro Carreras is a no brainer as we can reportedly buy him back for around £16m), and then another midfielder to replace Casemiro/Eriksen.
Ideally we would also need creative attacking player to improve the service especially as Mount is seemingly incapable of staying fit and I'm not entirely convinced by Amad. But that would require player sales and I think we'd struggle to get much for Casemiro, Eriksen, Antony etc.

Gyokeres couldn't get himself going for shit coaches either. Look at him now.

Analysis of Hojlund is neither here nor there for me. You don't get away with one striker with little experience at this level with the amount games we have. If there is a striker who can get 15-20 goals in the PL and I am pretty sure Gyokeres can do that, has a release clause or agreement near 60m and is close the new coach, then absolutely do it.
I just don't see Rashford completely fitting in to Amorims system either, but as I said before he has 2/3 of a season to work with these guys before they have to make these decisions. He shouldn't be under pressure to win a cup or come top 4 if it comes at the cost of getting everyone familiar with a new way of playing. I'm sure he will want to win the Europa or try and get into the CL, but not that important this season!
It's going to be another huge clear out this season with a lot of players again out of contract and others that have to be moved on if possible. He will know his core players to build around by the end of the year, but will need at least 4/5 players again in the summer, then after that it should be about 1-2 top additions when we can.

Good stuff.
He is managing a game for his current club against his former club and tomorrow his current club will be his former club.

Everything I read about Ruben Amorim says he is top class.
My only worry is literally all those things were said about ETH - tactically brilliant , demanding standards and effort (remember when he made the players run 15 kms because their work rate in some match was not good enough ?) , won trophies with Ajax , improved his players , did well in Europe with limited resources and was considered one of the best manager in Europe at the time.
I just hope he wont abandon his systems and principles which made him successful to fit our players.

I think the main difference between Amorim and ETH is personality.
Erik has a bit of schoolteacher vibe to him. That may work fine at a club like Ajax where players are obedient and very coachable and don't have egos. But he struggled to get through to the players here.
Amorim seems a lot more forceful and charismatic and I think he will do a better job at the man management and that will help make the tactical changes he wants on the pitch.

very excited about the fact that from now on the team is managed by amorim. but along with the excitement of "having something new", comes the madness and graveyard for managers that this club has become over the past decade. i fear that in about 2-3 years we will be right here again.
nevertheless, wish the man all the best and i'm not gonna stop myself too much about getting excited for now. may he be what we have been looking for. good fucking luck ruben!

RVN is out.
Not part of Ruben’s plans.
Sad but we have to start being ruthless not sentimental.
