I'm not one of these United fans who have ever called for Fergie's head, or booed him. There have been times over the past couple of years where I've been thinking "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU PLAYING AT??" but still, the memories of the good times are enough to keep my faith.
And again this year, he's done the trick. With the loss of Keane, and injuries of important players like Heinze, Scholes, Smith etc. there was no doubt he was leaving at the end of the season, according to the papers at least. Yet now he's won us a cup and we're set for 2nd place.
But he's going to have to go at some point, and it's likely to be over the next couple of seasons. He's the only manager at United I've known, and I cant quite imagine having someone else take his place.
But who do you reckon (or want) it to be? And when do you think it'll happen?

I reckon it'll happen at the end of next season; I don't want united to become a retirement home for him if he's no longer producing. Some of the decisions he's made have been seriously detrimental- playing the 4-5-1/4-3-3, slowing the team's tempo so that we are more continental, off-loading Beckham, Stam, and even Keano considering the circumstances. Still, he's rectified a lot of the mistakes of the last two years it would seem- back playing like a united team, although it still confuses me how we managed to get into such a mess with the midfield situation.
Haven't a clue who will be hired if he does go, perhaps Martin O'Neill depending on his wife's health, or probably a top European coach. I cannot go beyond the regular one's that get mentioned- Hitzfeld, Lippi, Capello, etc...

I dont think the Beckham thing was really a mistake. Becks was renogiating his contract for 18 months with us! (and think of the stick we gave Rio for just 4 months lol) and then signed for Real as soon as the window opened. And Stam, the circumstances in which he left was after writing a book slagging off United players and saying Fergie tells them to cheat! And then he failed a drugs test a few months later, so again, not really a Fergie mistake for me.
This season, my biggest problem with Alex has been his unfounded faith in Fletcher.

This season, my biggest problem with Alex has been his unfounded faith in Fletcher. Forgot about that. ;D I'm not too inclined to believe the excuses for the players going to be honest, bit too convenient for me- them all exonerating the manager. Probably both sides responsible- the players and the manager/ club.

Theyre not excuses though mate. You can read up on Sky Sports at the time over Beckham's negotiations, and all you have to do is get a copy of Stam's book! lol.

I think it's time. He's getting worse with age. The loyalty that we have towards the manager would make it almost impossible for us to ask him to leave but he can't recognise the time is NOW so we must say it. We are not getting better and only the world class talents get sold. Stam, Becks, Veron, Keane (released) and possibly now Ruud. It's all about personal issues with him and he NEEDS to go for the sake of the club. Our success is not inextricably linked to one man. That's fact!

20 years in the same job as a football manager or any other job come to that can take its toll. You can never say that SAF is no longer hungry for success i wish some of the young players at utd had the same drive and passion he does, but for next season i would like to see a new man in the driving seat, its time for change and i would hate to see the great man sacked at the end of the following season if we end up with sod all.Hiddink would be my choice a modern football manager who i dont think would ever be in Fergies shadow unlike Sparky would ,we need to move in a new direction the past has been good ,lets hope the future can be better.............

there is no point allowing him to rebuild for one/two seasons.he cant go on for ever.our new manager may not rate his signings/system.so let him move up or out this summer.let the club move on.i think sparky has the desire and ability along with the tactical know how to keep with the traditions of our club and bring the prem home.

I hope you're right but Sparky's job at Blackburn is not quite Man. United tough is it?

Fergal does'nt appear all that bothered about a number of our players either under performing, or are clearly not good enough in the first place.
One more crack at it may be, but to be honest its going to take more than a couple of quality midfielders to get us to the Renty and Barca standards, and a fair amount of cash.
We need a strong competitive squad of capable players, not just a decentish 5 or 6 players who we continually rely upon to paper over all the cracks.

i think fergie will leave in two years. sparky definately isn't the man for the job although he seems to be doing a good job at blackburn, he would always live fergies shadow. i think martin o'neil would be a good manager another man who really made his name in scotland. it has worked before, so why not again?

I think not brother. It'd be nice, but i just can't see it. If Chelski did'nt exist..."may be!" but they do! and they're light years better than we are........................all over the pitch!

The time is now. There's too many younger managers out there that have his card marked. Jose and Sparky to name two. I'd like to see him win us back the league again, which he's more than capable of doing if he swallows his prode and re-signs Liar23. If he's not gone after next season serious questions of the Glazers have to be asked!
As for replacements.
Jose Mourinho, not impossible. if he wins the CL with Chelsea and Scolari doesn't leave Portugal... It's destiny! Carlo Ancelotti
