Just had a read, I knew it all before, well for the most part anyway, we've talked about it before but for anyone who comes on here having a pop at Fergie for Becks, Keane Ruud ect, blaming him for the way they left then well, fucking read that first!

Hi Fellow reds............ This is my first post so ease me in eh? My first game supporting Utd was 76 cup final v Southampton.......Yep Bobby stokes ...what a baptism of fire that was!! I've read this post from start to finish & feel that the line "no one is bigger than our club" has to be the important part. Dont' get me wrong I've worshipped all these guys over time but at the end of the day if you feel your bigger than OT itself the gaffer has every right to move you on to pastures new.... as an example I can guarantee (after 30 yrs behind a red scarf I might add) that you will see an explosion of this in Chelski land in the not too distant future ....too many egos pulling major ££ on a per week basis but only kicking a ball for 10 minutes a week...........& Ballack will add to that friction....a team of 11 midfielders by next season!! ha ha Despite the so called "poor season" I am right behind SAF on this.........rebuilding a 3rd new look team is done with team spirit not tantrums........& hopefully a class midfielder!

Alright fella, welcome to the forum. If you like, you can start a thread in the New Members board so you get a hello from everyone I think people were calling this a "poor season" back in November (check my sig lol) but I think we've redeemed ourselves somewhat in the 2nd half of the season. But I think you're spot on about Chelsea. There's only so many "superstars" you can have in one team. You look at our team that won the European Cup, yeh of course there was the likes of Becks, Yorke, Cole...... but then we also had very grounded players, who were passionate about playing for United, like Gary, Scholes, Giggs, Butt. And then nobodies like Blomqvist! Sooner or later Chelsea's whole team will be superstars, and that might sort them out for a season or two, but it cant last forever. Young English players will stop signing for them (thanks Shaun) too. Fact is, Jose could cut lose any of those players, and nobody would bat an eyelid. But when Fergie does it, it's something to make a fuss about.

Alright lads and ladies, this my first post on here. But, I have been reading your blogs for a while and I've got to say they're absolutely great. You a professional journo?...
On the topic, I'm absolutely in agreement. Except, one thing...Ruud hasn't left yet. I know it's more than likely he will but, Fergie loves Ruud like the fans and you never know the situation could be resolved.
I was absolutely gutted when Beckham left, Keano left (although it was inevitable)...but was glad Jaap Stam left because of his book, regardless of how good he was. When Beckham and Keano left though, Fergie still had my backing and every decision Fergie makes is for the good of the club.
Once again, great read and I'm looking forward to posting on here some more.

Funny how we can all support the same team but see things in a completely different light. Not really into this can never point a finger and accuse SAF of ever making a mistake, agree we most likely shouldn`t have another manager and no-one could of done a better job but this endless bust up with the likes of Keane and Ruud has started to take over .Keane one of the best midfielders of all time leaving in the way he did should never of happened same with Becks regardless of what he has turned into since he left Utd he was a great Utd player, same with Ruud .I dont want to be siding one against the other ,there all Utd if a player goes on t.v and slags his team mates yea stop and think, but this was Keane who did it club captain and someone who knows what he was talking about at the time he was only mirroring what most of the fans were thinking he was pissed off and rightly so.I support SAF totally but the thought he has never made a mistake and could never do wrong is wishful thinking,i dont think it is about blame its more about a difference of opinion.........

Howdy, first time reader long time commenter!
While I agree with most of the points of your article especially concernign David Beckham I would ask whether you think the general standard of Fergusons managing had dipped at all in recent times? And given a choice between RVN and Ferguson leaving this summer who would you chose?
I agree wholeheartedly with your Beckham comments, I think we sold him at exactly the right time for the club as his performances were beginning to dip and have dropped off ever since, playing for Real in one of the best attacking teams in europe with his passing it's easy to look at least passable but I don't think he could hack the pace in the premiership anymore. Beckham I think would have liked to retire when he left united and persued a movie/modeling career in america.
Stam I thik we lost at a bad time for the club, Keane likewise, couldn't have come at a worse time with the players we have at the club, Fletcher will never be good enough, O'Shea who's a defender, Smith who's a striker, Scholes who has had injury problems and is a good distance north of 30, Giggs who is a winger, Park who is a winger and used sparingly and Richardson who should have stayed at West Brom.
Van Nistelrooy is potentially leaving at a bad time, if United pick up another striker then it could be ok, but Saha won't be able to fill his shoes, Rooney needs a partner and Smith has been playing in midfield for like a season so will probably need to readapt to his striking role, Rossi looks good but is only 19.
Ferguson comes under alot of criticism which can be unfair, I mean after all blame Quiroz it's much more fun.

I dont agree that we can never point a finger at Fergie too. As I've said in my article, there things I have disagreed with that Fergie has done. For instance, at the start of the season, regardless of the formation, or who was fit, Fergie was chopping and changing the team every week. That was a piss take, and if I disagree with Fergie, I'll be the first to voice it. We can point our finger at him if he's in the wrong...but in the instances of these players, I dont think he has been. Beckham wouldnt sign the contract, Jaap wrote that book, and Keano stormed off because his contract wasnt going to be renewed. I dont see how Fergie is in the wrong for any of those. He's a stubborn, strict little bastard at times, but I believe the team is always what comes first.
donkeadrogba In answer to your question, and it's really a no brainer for me if I'm honest, I'd choose Ruud to go over Fergie in a heartbeat. Aside from Ruud's lack of motivation, it's had knock on effects on the team as well. What about you? I think the standards were raised first by Arsenal, and now by Chelsea. But we've finished the league with 83 points this year, which was enough to win the league 3 years ago! This season, if we'd experienced the luck Chelsea have with injuries, would we have won? Or at least, would we have come a closer 2nd? Definately. To finish 8 points behind a team that's spent £350mill+ in 3 seasons, with a CL winning manager in charge, and no injuries, isn't half shabby considering we've been without Heinze, Keane, Scholes, Smith and a few others for significant portions of the season.
Personally, I think Ferguson should be praised for his mentality. There aren't many managers, if any, who have the balls to stand up to the prima donnas in their team. United always have been, and always will be bigger than just one player. The problem is, the screw ups always seem to occur at awful times, like you said.

I think with Ferguson taking more and more of a back seat I would rather see Fergie leave, bear in mind this is not a call for Fergie out rather a call for some actual thought abouyt the clubs future.
I don't think in all honesty Fergie has the time or judgement to build a third great team at old trafford, the team needs lots of work, the squad needs work if European Glory is to arrive back and knock the door of old Trafford.
The kind of peoblems united have would not be allowed to happen at any comperable size european club, do you think a player of the quality of Darren Fletcher would be allowed to play 30+ games a season at a team like Barcelona or AC Milan?
Louis Saha would be playing third fiddle in the striking stakes rather than seemingly where we're going to hang out championship hat next season, plus we've gone three seasons without the league title which wouldn't be allowed in comperable sized clubs, heads would roll, look at Milan, Ancehlotti looks to be out this summer and he's got them to the Champions league final and semi final in consequtive seasons.
Ferguson has been a great manager for us, but I think he is being left alone by the board now because of his past glories which is ok given as how he's the most successful manager in premiership history but Martin O'Neill isn't gonna wait around forever.

Keane getting another yellow against Juve did indeed keep him out the final, but he single handedly dragged us by the scruff of our necks into the final, without once ever thinking of himself. And he did get sent off against Arsenal in the semi, but needless to say, we kicked on in the absence of our captain and showed tremendous spirit. Olly got sent off against Newcastle at O.T. when we'd all but lost the league, but he's tagged a legend in most of our minds? Keane's treatment by Fergie and Queer-arse was nothing short of a fuckin disgrace, the captain should be allowed to make his opinions known, and its scandalous that the manager should seek retribution on the clubs record goal scorer because he agreed with Roy's comments by forcing him out. It was only a couple of months ago Mourinho publically slated Joe Cole and Drogba for being "lazy show pony's", now Cole is being branded "one of Englands few world class talents?". "No one is bigger than the club?" and that includes the manager.

yeah i echo the last sentiment, ferguson as good as his record is hasnt delivered the league in three years and along the way has signed some pretty substandard midfielders.. Now that is being picky of course but so is saying about keano's yellow in the turin semi and the sending off the arsenal game. If there was a player i did not want to leave under these circumstances it was keano who if he is club captian has a job to do in terms of getting the side going. Our central midfield though credit to the players who have deputised is an absoulte joke. We only have Darren Fletcher as a recognised central midder. Giggsy, O'Shea, Smith, Rio, even Kieran have done thier bit, but the moment Veron and Becks left this football club back in the summer of 03, Fergie should have addressed that situation. What does he do, leave it till moments before the transfer window shuts in Jan 06' and then targets Johann Vogel from Milan sayin "we could do with signing a central midfielder". You dont say Fergie! All this after siging Vidic and Evra, the former who I have been most impressed with. This is what pisses me off about Fergie.

how can you slag fergie for not signing a midfielder in jan?? newsflash the top midfielders play for top teams and the top teams are involved in europe, THEY DONT LET THEIR MIDFIELDERS LEAVE MID-SEASON!
and the captain of the team cant say what he wants about performances, the only person that can do that is the manager, the captain cannot undermine the manager, no one is indispensable, especially a nackered 34 year old in need of an hip replacement, fergie was 100% right.
the thing that winds me up aint that people call fergie is that they call fergie when hes right and dont say a word when hes wrong. if people are gonna slag him for sommat then form a true opinion on something hes doing wrong rather than just quoting the tabloid columists.
oh and just a note about roy keane dragging the team into the european cup final, alex ferguson dragged from the bones of its arse back to the pinacle. he has created a team that considers 2nd place and a major trophy as a disappointing season, when he first arrived that would have done quite nicely considering we were in the bottom half of the league.

I think nackered 34 yr old in referring to Roy Keane is not the way i would descibe the best fucking midfield player weve ever or anybodyelse has had ,the fall out with SAF left us with a shat central midfield i would rather have an old Keano in the team than some of the others that have played there this season...
