For me it's the tried and tested 4-4-2. Some people are saying use 4-3-3 because Chelsea and Barcelona do. So what of they do at 4-3-3 United looked abysmal and Wazza was taken completely out of the game.
United are at their best with 4-4-2, did you hear the chants coming from the Stretford End early in the season, I think they were: ''Four Four Two''

It has to be 4-4-2, no questions asked.

For me, it depends on whether we have Ruud or next season. With Ruud, only 442, but with Saha, I reckon 433 could work. It worked in the 04-05 season without him.

i think great teams must adapt to different systems, I rembere teams worked out how to play against us when we had just two in centre midfield.
And especially in the Champions league we looked better on a number of occassions with three in the middle.

Agree with Scott. If Ruud´s still here, I love to see 4-4-3 with Saha just behind Rooney and Van Horselhead. Have been waiting for Ferguson to experiment with this. Otherwise, let´s stick with the 4-4-2

4-3-3 automatically reverts into 4-5-1 which was the cause of our dull, boring and non-united like performances in the first half of this season! its a daft tactic and not fit for our squad...4-4-2 without a fucking doubt!!!

4.4.2. It so much easier to play from the wings with this formation. It also helps with the overlapping runs. With three forwards it just seems to crowd the center of the pitch.

It all depends on who we get rid of and who we bring in. It’s no good reverting to certain tactics when it doesn’t benefit the players we’ve got. We can’t go wasting talent

When we played with Giggs, Rooney and Ronaldo last season for a couple of months when Ruud was injured, we were on fire. Scoring every game, playing great free flowing football. I imagine the same could happen with Saha, Rooney and Ronaldo... For the most part, I agree though. I like a good old fashioned 442, and dont feel United are really in the position to piss around with formations.

4-4-2, not really willing to try 4-3-3 again and continually fail with it like the start of this season Although 4-3-3 has worked time and again against Arsenal that just proves it works much better in europe, it can't take the pace of the premiership with its lack of width or the amount of work the players have to do to close down the space on the flanks, which doesn't allow Rooney to create as he's always tracking back. It's a completely different style of football your asking them to play, which their not suited to playing, their league isn't suited to playing, it is already tried, tested and failed. Forget about it. United have played 4-4-2 for years, its always worked, never changed it and always suceeded.

Why change it? To compete against the best whom incidently do use it, like 7even says it TOTALLY depends on whom we bring into the midfield, Rooney, Saha n Ronaldo up front would cause defences no end of trouble but it depends who will be doin the job behind them exactly, why fix something if it aint broken?
